The Flashback

The day after Sally's visit Dr. Rivers was doing a final exam on Darrel. He checked her abdomen first. He told her that everything was healed. He then told her that he was going to check how her ankle was. He told her that he hoped that she would be able to walk on it will no pain. He helped her out of bed. She put her feet on the floor. She stood from the bed. Her dad helped her to the end of the bed where there was more room to walk and assess her walking.

Once at the end of the bed, Darrel saw Tori looking at her with a sad look. She knew Tori was there longer, yet she was healed and about to leave the San. She felt guilty. She then concentrated on walking. She walked from one side of the San to the other with no pain. She was so glad and Dr. Rivers was too. She walked over to her bed and sat down.

Matron then placed a school uniform on Darrel's bed. She told Darrel to get dressed. Darrel did as she was told.

Once dressed, Darrel sat on the bed. She wanted to talk to Tori, but she saw that Tori looked so sick still. She didn't want to upset her. She looked away. Dr. Rivers told Darrel that Tori would be fine. He could see Darrel looked upset leaving Tori. He reminded her that she didn't need to be in the San anymore. He told her that she was clear to return to lacrosse too. Darrel was so pleased. She left the San without a word to Tori who was sleeping. Darrel headed back to the dorm to get her things for class.

When Tori woke up, she was alone in the San. She felt like she was. She could hear Dr. Rivers talking to her dad and Matron behind the privacy partition. She then saw that the bed next to her was empty. She was sad and frustrated that Darrel was well enough to leave the San. She was also glad at the same time. She just wished her body would cooperate and heal, so she could leave the San too. She hoped Darrel could visit her. She already missed her and started to cry as she held her bears and doll tight.

When Dr. Moore, Dr. Rivers and Matron heard Tori crying, they ran to her. They were concerned something serious was going on. Dr. Moore and Dr. Rivers wore their full surgical garments. Matron even wore a mask and gloves. They didn't want to risk anything. They went to Tori's bed.

Once they arrived at the bed, Tori saw all their masked faces. She started to cry more. Her dad told her that they had to wear masks to protect her. She understood. He told her that he and Dr. Rivers needed to thoroughly examine her because they needed to figure out why she was in so much pain. He looked at her. He noticed how uncomfortable she looked. He asked her what was bothering her. She told him it was her head, abdomen and diaper.

He then removed her blanket. He then gently lifted her from the bed. He made sure her bears and doll was with her. He carried her behind the privacy partition. Dr. Rivers and Matron followed.

Once behind the privacy partition, Dr. Moore lay Tori on the bed. Tori looked around. She saw that the cart was there with a diaper, wipes and ointment. She saw a bowl with hot water and soap as well as towels. She then asked if she was getting washed. Her dad told her that she was getting a thorough wash again to prevent infection. She understood.

It was time to clean her. Dr. Rivers asked Matron to remove Tori's leg braces and socks. She did as she was told. Dr. Rivers removed Tori's diaper. The leg braces were removed and so was the diaper. Dr. Rivers asked Matron to dispose of the diaper. She grabbed the dirty diaper and left.

Once Tori was alone with Dr. Rivers and her dad, they were going to talk to her about what was going to happen. She was completely naked. They told her that they would examine her as they washed her. She understood that made sense. Dr. Rivers started with her feet. Dr. Moore did her head.

While Tori was getting washed and examined, Matron disposed of the dirty diaper. She then washed her hands. She decided to change Tori's bed and put clean linen on it. She knew it would help reduce infection. She also removed the linen from the bed Darrel as in and made it with fresh linen, so she was ready for any of the girls sickness or injury.
