Tori was in her English class working on her assignment about introducing herself. She had to reread the instructions a few times, so she wouldn't forget anything. Mrs. Pots allowed them to work on it for a bit that day. Tori started by introducing what she would be talking about. All she got done was the introduction of her essay introducing herself to the class.

English class was over. It was time for History. Darrel and Sally helped Tori. She was in her wheelchair for English and History that morning. Darrel pushed Tori's wheelchair to History class. The girls continued to learn the history of Malory Towers. Tori was relieved to be able to concentrate on what was being taught. Tori was so intrigued about the history of the school and the history of England as well.

History class had ended. It was time for gym class for the others. Sally took Tori's books and Darrel's as well. She told Darrel she would put their books in the dorm and get their gym kits while Darrel took Tori to the San for her stretches. Darrel thanked Sally and Darrel took Tori to the San.

Once at the San, Matron saw Darrel with Tori. She let them in. She thanked Darrel for helping Tori and told her to come back after gym. Darrel then left.

In the San, Matron helped Tori out of her wheelchair. She helped her to one of the beds. Tori sat down and Matron helped her lay down on the bed. Matron began to remove Tori's leg braces. Dr. Rivers walked in the San. Tori didn't notice because she was concentrating on Matron removing her braces.

When Dr. Rivers walked over to the bed, Tori saw him, but she was confused to see him. He told her that Miss Greyling and Matron wanted him to do her leg exercises because he was an expert in polio care and how to care for a clubfoot as well. He also told Tori that Miss Greyling told him that she understood Tori's hesitancy about others touching her feet and arm. He asked her if she was ready. She told him that she was.

When Dr. Rivers took Tori's right foot, he straightened it. She screamed in pain. He apologized because he knew straightening her right foot was the only way to figure out what he needed to do to help it. He asked Matron to put Tori's right leg brace back on. That was what Tori needed. He knew it hurt her to put her brace on her right foot anyway.

When the right brace was on, he checked Tori's left foot. He saw how floppy it was. It was also tight. He told her that he wanted her to sleep with her right brace on. He wanted to keep her right foot as straight as possible. Tori told him that she understood. He told her that her left brace could be removed at night. He let Matron know about this. He was very strict about it. The session ended and Dr. Rivers left. Matron put Tori's left left brace on. She then helped her into her wheelchair. They waited for Darrel to come take Tori to lunch.

When Darrel came to get Tori, Matron told her to be gentle with Tori. Matron told Darrel that Tori was sore from being stretched. Darrel told Matron that she would. She then left the San with Tori.

After lunch, Darrel and Sally helped Tori to the dorm. Alicia and Marylou were already there. Darrel helped Tori onto her bed. They had a break before afternoon classes began. Tori was relieved just to relax for a bit.

The girls then asked Tori about how her stretches went. She told them that they went okay. They asked her if Matron did them. Tori told them that a doctor had to come in to do the stretches. She told them that Mrs. Greyling was the one who implemented it. She also told them that the doctor had to check her feet as well. She told them that the doctor told her that she had to leave her right foot brace on all the time. She told them that to help keep her right foot straight was to keep her brace on. They understood. She told them that her left leg brace was allowed to be removed at night as well as her arm brace.

It was time to get ready for class. The girls grabbed their books. Darrel helped Tori to the San to get her wheelchair. Tori couldn't walk to class for the time being.
