bruises and tear stains circling the drain
i tried to climb out of the pool and thought i'd be stuck there forever
i tried to tell my mom i wasn't okay
i tried my best but at some point, the best you can do isn't enough
i'm never enough.
koi fish swim in circles forever;
i thought i'd always feel the same.
my friends wave at me, safe from the tide
— i went swimming this year,
and would they even realize
if i stayed there forever?
