Ginny's POV

I woke up before anyone else. I didn't even know why I was excited. I just laid awake in the early hours of the morning until finally Mione has awoken as well.

"What are you doing up so early?" She looked at me expectantly. "I couldn't sleep very well." She rolled her eyes. I felt a lecture coming up. "Ginny, I thought we had agreed that we wouldn't lie to each other anymore. Who are you going to the ball with?" I sighed. Was she really doing this again? "Look, Mione. I really am telling you the truth. And you have to wait to find out who is going to the ball with me." She cut in. "It's Malfoy. It has to be." This answer took me by surprise. It was true. And I couldn't lie. But she couldn't know. I came up with a clever...selected evidence. "Mione. It might be. But it's probably not. I'm not going to say. It could be Harry because he asked me while we were still dating. You don't need to worry about it." She just rolled her eyes. I was smirking. "Fine. Just be thick." And with that delightful comment, we got dressed for the day. The great hall was even rowdier than usual. The professors lined the front of the hall. In the chair of Dumbledore sat Mcgonagall. Snape sat next to her. The faint scars from the snake could be seen from here. The great hall was still not done being constructed. It has taken a long time to build the first time. Now creating it again the exact same way was even harder, even with magic. Students all around me and Hermione were chattering and specific girls were whispering in groups. We sat down at the Gryffindor table next to Ron and Harry. Neville was beside Harry, and said a quick hi before returning to his conversation with Dean. I looked up and met the silvery gaze of Draco. He smirked. I just smiled. His smirk finally broke into a grin. He then broke the gaze and started writing on a price of parchment. He charmed it to fly to me in a swan formation. It flew right past Harry. He reached out and grabbed it. "Who's it from Gin?" He was starting to unfold it. Draco looked mildly concerned. I snatched the paper away. Harry looked up. "Look, Gin. I'm sorry. I still want to be friends... if that's ok?" I nodded. "Of course Harry." I sighed quietly to myself. That sounded so stupid. I looked down at the piece of parchment. In very neat cursive...

I hope tonight will be fun. You're going to look amazing.

I smiled. Ron was now interested too. "Yeah Ginny. Who's it from? What's it say?" I finally gritted my teeth and replied. "Nothing. None of your business. Go away." And then I flipped the parchment over and conjured a quill.

How dazzling. It will go extremely well. Unless you make me dance with Harry. Then it would be awkward. Your going to look striking. Believe me. You do already.

I then turned it into a swan again. And sent it away. Harry tried to follow its path. But it was gone too quickly. He just pouted and continued to eat. Suddenly Ron looked disgusted. "Why is Malfoy smiling? Did someone die?" I got red around the ears. "Well, doesn't he have a right to smile? And no, of course not. He doesn't laugh about that stuff he-" I stopped. Ron's fork had clattered to his plate and Harry was staring at me. Jaw slack. "What? What happened?" I demanded. Hermione just sighed looking at her lap. "Y-you just protected Malfoy! What happened?! You covering a Death Eater is what happened." I suddenly realized what I had said, but it just made me want to stick up for him more. "Look. He isn't a Death Eater. I just think all people should get the right to laugh. Everyone has feelings." I stood up from the table and calmly walked to Potions early. Hermione followed and so did a price of parchment. I stepped out of the great hall. And was immediately pushed into the wall. Hermione a face really close to mine. "You have to be more careful Gin. Sending letters back and forth at breakfast isn't going to keep your love affair with Malfoy a secret." I stared at her. "That's not what-" she cut me off. "Do you take me as an idiot? Because I am no idiot. It was perfectly well from Malfoy! And it was talking about the dance. He's who you're going with. It would explain the urge to pick a green dress!" I was lost for words so I just nodded slightly. Mione stepped back a little. "Look. I support my best friend one hundred percent. But your just making a fool of yourself. Be more careful. Please? It would be bad for Harry or Ron to find out that Malfoy even talks to you. Much less...kisses you." I nodded. "We're going to be late for potions. Let's go." And Hermione set off after me as we rushed to get to potions on time.
