Draco's POV
We got to the headmistress's office, but before we could knock her voice shouted from within. "Come in!" I guess you had to yell pretty loudly to get through layers upon layers of walls. I let granger go first then I gently closed the door behind me. Mcgonagall sat behind her desk scribbling a note marked with a red H, that stood for Hogwarts. It was to a soon to be first year. I smiled slightly but then got straight to the point. "We were sent to you by professor Snape." I spoke instead of hermione because she still looked a little shaky and if I had just finished crying I would've been scared of people hearing my voice crack and sputter. Turns out I was right. She glanced at me, touching my hand, slightly smiling. I squeezed her hand momentarily then released it when Mcgonagall started to talk. "Yes, I am aware of that, he only sent for miss. Granger." I felt her stiffen and her eyes flicked around nervously. I spoke up. "It was a misunderstanding. And since I was the victim I should be the one to appoint the mistake to you, so it doesn't look as if granger was purposely trying to get off the hook."Mcgonagall raised her eyebrows, but nodded. "Very well, please explain this "mishap" I nodded. "I was wondering who was missing from class. So I turned to ask granger. She wouldn't respond, due to the rules of talking in class. So I took her quill. She tried to take it back. So I let go, rather suddenly too. So it scraped my shoulder. And granger started to laugh, kindly might I add, and apologize. Which made me laugh too. This caught Snape's attention and-" she interrupted me, clearing her throat. I bit back a groan but went on. "My apologies, professor Snape's attention. He wouldn't let me explain properly. In fact he completely inhabited my attempts to correct the incident." I finished the story, and Mcgonagall looked close to astonished. "So if I understand you correctly mr. Malfoy, you are freeing miss. Granger of punishment, putting yourself at risk for detention, and being civil enough to walk and talk to her, clearing her name?" I nodded looking down. Mcgonagall's mouth twitched into a small smile. "Mr. Malfoy, I know very well she didn't accidentally stab you. But I'm sure she was sincere about the apology. And from what I can observe, she shed a few tears in fear of getting in trouble. So, I will not give any punishment, to this "accident" that has occurred, shall we say, and instead give you my personal gratitude for your actions." I smirked. "With all do respect headmistress, I didn't save her from a killing curse. She meant no harm." She laughed kindly, and hermione emitted a choked giggle, wiping her frozen tears off her face. I lightly squeezed her, and exited the office. I smirked and bumped her shoulder. She smiled and shoved me into the corridor wall. I laughed, "you know I can turn around and report you right?!" She smiled. "But your true act of selflessness would save me from any punishment. Your bravery alone." I laughed and she chuckled, a little less crying like.
