13. The Three Powerful Bloodlines

Reader's POV

I stepped out of the dining hall after telling Levi that he had to prove himself to me to get another chance at the offer. Like he said, he would accept the offer if it was given to him because now he knew that he could never beat me. I must admit, if he hadn't been distracted by what I said, beating him would have been a challenge. I thought about it again, why was he distracted by hearing the name 'Ackerman'?

Was he part of the family? Was he the one who was missing, the true heir from the main family? If so, what was he doing here? He could just contact the head of the house and all of his problems would be solved. Or, was he not aware of the fact that he was an Ackerman? If so, hearing the name shouldn't have gotten that reaction from him.

I sighed as Mikasa approached me, she was waiting for me outside the dining hall.

"What is it?" She asked me.

"I'm sure you already know that Levi is no regular person," Upon hearing this, she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "He beat you, an Ackerman. That shouldn't be physically possible unless he's from one of the two powerful bloodlines of the three powerful bloodlines."

The three powerful bloodlines. In the ancient times, after the war of Marley, Eldia and Paradis, these three families were one of the main causes of Paradis's victory. After Paradis won the war and peace spread over the empire, island and nation, these three families left the island. The three families had special powers in their blood and so were given this name.

The first family is the Reiss family. The Reiss family can turn into titans like all the subjects of Ymir and they are the most powerful ones in their titan form. Though as humans, they have no special powers except that they can read minds and control other Eldians like the English Imperial Family but this is in theory only. If we look at proven facts, then only the English Imperial Family could manifest the full potential of the power. This family went on later and founded the French Empire.

The second family was the Yeager family. The Yeager family can also turn into titans like all subjects of Ymir. However, they can only wield the titans like any other would, unlike the Reiss family. The speciality is the human form. One person from each generation would have special gifts such as strength, speed, wit and other things. This family went on to create the English Empire.

The third family was the Ackerman family. The Ackermans cannot wield the power of the titans but all descendants of the family have extraordinary physical abilities like strength, speed or both. The Ackerman family looked for peace so they lived as regular citizens in the French Empire only until one of the ambitious descendants moved to the English Empire and started a merchant company that is now the Ackerman Trading Company.

It's impossible to be a stronger titan than a Reiss titan, a stronger individual than a gifted descendant of the Yeager family or have a stronger team than the Ackerman family.

Mikasa nodded, agreeing with me, "He has to be a member of one of those bloodlines. Seeing how he isn't using the power he's entitled to, he might not be aware of that. He can't be of the Reiss family since he's strong in his human form. He can't be of the Yeager family since the Emperor was the gifted one in his generation and you are in the new one."

"What?" I asked, stopping myself from smiling at Mikasa's kind words, "How do you know that?"

"You know that no regular member of the Yeager family has the strength to beat an Ackerman. You beat me, it's obvious that it's you," we started conversing while walking away towards my dining room.

I blushed at Mikasa's words as I changed the topic, "Ahem, we are talking about Levi here."

"Right, so as I said, he couldn't be of the Reiss of Yeager family which means...," she paused as she came to the ultimate conclusion, "He's related to me."

She frowned, then, the simple frown became the look of pure shock and disgust.

"Pftt," I couldn't control myself, "You should look at yourself in the mirror right now!"

Mikasa looked mad at me for laughing but before she could say anything, we were interrupted by Reiner. That guy has good timing, I almost died right now.

"Here's the report," Reiner offered me an envelope.

"What report?" I asked as I took the envelope from him, "I get like 200 reports a month."

"What is the report that you actually look forward to getting?" He asked as my eyes widened. I quickly opened the envelope to scan its contents.

"I already read it over and they found one Isabel," Reiner said as I looked at him, "But, she's a three year old so she's not the one you are looking for."

"Then tell me that first!"

"Alright, I will next time."

"Hah," I breathed, "When am I ever going to find her?" I asked no one in particular.

"Look," Mikasa grabbed my attention, "It's great that you are sneaking people from the Underground to the North to give them better lives but why are you still looking for that one girl?"

"I think I told you that already," I opened up the report to check it over once more in case Reiner missed anything.

"It's been eight years."

"I know but she's the reason I'm here," I looked at the report and sure enough, "There was only one Isabel and she wasn't the one I was looking for.

"Aren't you going to the North next month to check on the Underground refugees and how they are settling there?" Reiner asked me as we started walking back to my dining room.

"Oh yeah," Mikasa remembered, clapping her hands, "Christmas is coming up and so is your family dinner along with the new year's banquet hosted by the English Empire this year. Are you sure that you'll be able to go?"

"I'd like to," I replied, "But it seems like I might be helping Father with the dinner and banquet preparations this year."

"Are you sure that you want to go to the North in winter? You'll freeze," Reiner reminded me.

"I know but I'm sending the refugees there because it's the only place where I can hide anything from the Empress and those are supposedly far better living conditions than the Underground so I need to see if it's actually better and if the place and the people have a future."

"Wow, you're actually nice," Mikasa said.

"Huh, of course not," Reiner interjected, "She's the definition of evil."

"You're saying that to someone who sheltered you?" I asked him.

"After threatening me because I found out your secret because of your own mistake!"

"Well, I saved you from Father who was about to behead you right that instant! And look where you are now. In a palace!"

"Stop yelling, someone might hear," Mikasa reminded us as we both shut up.

"Your Highness!"

I heard a voice behind me and footsteps. It sounded like the person was running. I turned around to see who it was and it was Erwin.

"Yes, Erwin?" I asked.

"His Majesty has asked that you leave for his palace immediately!"
