Reader's POV
"At this time?" I asked Erwin who was panting slightly after running to deliver that message to me as quickly as possible.
"Yes, Your Highness. His Majesty sent a messenger to relay the message and pick you up in the carriage."
"I see," I said as I thought about what it could be about. Probably the assassination that happened today. The entire Imperial family might be there if this is one of Father's interrogations. I suppose that the situation is extreme since he is taking precautions by only letting carriages with the imperial seal on them enter, "I'll head there right away."
I gave Reiner a look that he understood as he went to my room to fetch a formal coat. I didn't have time to get ready. If I was late and looked like I had spent some time getting ready then it would seem like I only care about my appearance and not about the urgency of the situation but if I showed up with what I was wearing now, a plain black coat with only a few black diamonds on it, it would tarnish my reputation.
I went to the palace gates with Mikasa following behind me to attend as my personal guard and when I reached, I was greeted by Floch Forster, someone who was a loyal servant of my fathers. I saw Reiner rushing towards me, a purple formal coat with purple diamonds and white diamonds tightly sewn on it in his hand.
I took off the coat I was wearing at the time and exchanged it with what Reiner gave me. With my black coat in his hand, he waved me goodbye with his other hand as I nodded as I got into the carriage with Mikasa following behind me and finally Floch getting in after.
When we were all seated comfortably, Floch signalled the coach to move forward as we rode out of my palace gates.
"Floch," I said to get his attention as he whipped his head around to look at me.
"Your Highness?"
"Is this urgent meeting about the assassination of the eighth prince and his mother?"
"Yes, Your Highness," he replied.
"How unfortunate. Even when the prince was just a kid," I exhaled. Even if he was a rival, I never hated the eighth prince because he never harboured any contempt for me. And he wasn't a rival in a way since he never planned on fighting for the throne at all. The poor boy wanted to study abroad but I suppose the Empress or someone else viewed him as a threat and planned on getting rid of him.
Well, not that it affects me much. I gave him a few moments of silence and some sympathy for the consort's family. I didn't know him much other than for seeing each other and sharing a few words at the yearly family dinners. I have my own situation to worry about.
Udo, was it? Wow, I can't even remember my own brother's name.
Well, it's not like being connected by blood makes you family.
The carriage jumped over a bump as I snapped out of my thoughts and saw that Mikasa and Floch were having a glaring contest. Mikasa judging him if he could be a threat to me and Floch looking at her as if she could commit treason at any moment.
And I didn't even get a chance to inform Mikasa about how my blood was reacting near Levi. And if Mikasa's blood didn't act in a similar way then that meant that he was definitely an Ackerman.
Since the three powerful bloodlines had something different about their blood and they used to work together, their blood reacted strangely when met with someone of the other bloodlines for the first few months.
And if my blood reacted that way then he was someone from one of the three bloodlines but not the Yeagers' or Reisss' because I was from both and it didn't react if it was the same blood. And if Mikasa's blood didn't then he definitely was an Ackerman.
