39. Prized Possession

Reader's POV

"D-Do you want me to add more fire to the fireplace?" Reiner shivered as he sat on my couch, at least five blankets covering him.

"Just take these blankets off of me, man," I asked something of him, to take the blankets that I had lost count of as Mikasa draped them on me to prevent me from catching a cold, "I can also get sick because of too much heat.

"No way," He shook his head the most he was able to in the cold, "Mikasa would kill me."

At that time, Mikasa had already gone over to her room to sleep while Reiner accompanied me because according to him, my room was much cleaner and warmer than his causing me to not even be able to imagine the condition that his room was in.

Maybe it was kind of like the ones I was held in the Underground.

No way; even if these are ruins, this was once a beautiful castle that the previous Emperor's often resided in while defending the North at times of war. However, they have been unkempt for a long time since the Imperial Family sold it to the Ackerman Trading Company when the economy was hitting rock bottom. The Ackerman Trading Company didn't inspect the lands and instead sold it back to the Imperial Family once they had regained the economy for a higher price and made a profit.

These lands were not only useless to the Imperial Family but also a liability because they were responsible for protecting and defending these lands from outer forces despite not being able to make use of them so they were for sale. As a member of the Imperial Family, I got them for a cheap price and the process was very easy since it was up for sale but not just for anyone but for an important figure that I was.

I was brought back to the situation by a yawn from Aether who was lounging on my bed, taking up more than half the size on the queen size bed.

"I-I'm cold," Reiner sniffled in the snot his nose was producing due to the cold.

"I know." I replied simply as I boiled under the blankets while Ath nuzzled into me even further causing me to question how I wasn't on fire yet.

"C-Can I add more firewood to the fireplace?"

"I don't know. Can you?" I glared.

"May I add more fire to the fireplace?" Reiner sobbed as I threw all of the blankets on top of me, onto Reiner.

"You won't need to now."

"But Mikasa will kill me if she sees you like this!"

"She has already gone off to sleep," I reminded Reiner before asking the questions, "By the way, where are the rest of the tampons?"

"In the bag," Reiner answered as he pulled the blankets I just gave him, onto him properly.

"Well?"

"Huh?"

"Do you not get what I'm saying?" I leaned my back on the wall while standing.

"Do you want me to go get them in this cold?!"

"Yes!"

"I ain't going!"

"Then who will?"

"I don't know! You?"

"Me?" I pointed at myself and scoffed, "And what should I say when someone sees me walking back with them in my hand?"

"Just say that they are for Mikasa!"

"Why would I go get them for Mikasa?!"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because you are courting her?! Publicly, at least!"
