Reader's POV

"Leave us," I ordered everyone standing outside the barred prison in the dungeon underneath the central palace.

"But Your Highness-" The guards tried to argue.

"Leave us. I do understand your doubt in my capabilities but do not insult me to this extent," I wasn't able to look them in the eye.

"Your Highness, that is not what I meant. Pardon us, but this Undergroundener tried to assassinate Your Highness. I-"

"Leave," Mikasa ushered all of them out the door as they reluctantly obliged.

"You too, Mikasa," I stared straight at Furlan as he glared back.

"But-"

"I'll be fine. Trust me."

Mikasa nodded as she left. She knew that I needed to be protected in the fragile state my body was in but she also knew that even in this state, no normal man could hurt me and she knew that I needed space.

"Where's Levi?" Furlan grit his teeth in anger.

"Safe and mind your language or he will not be," I warned.

"What do you want, Your Highness?"

"Why did you lie to me about Isabel?"

Furlan was angry and he looked away from my gaze.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you," I said and I had to admit, I couldn't blame Father for enjoying this position of power.

"My best friend went to assassinate a powerful prince and there has been no sign of him. I am sent as a replacement and when I go there, there are signs that my friend went there but no signs that he is still there. The prince tells me about what kinds of ends the previous assassins have met. The prince knows my name and asks his butler to search for me and then he asks about my little sister's name. What was I to do, Your Highness?"

"Sister?" I raised an eyebrow.

"We're a family. Not blood-related but down there, barely anyone is."

"Family, huh?" I muttered to myself, not loudly enough for Furlan to hear, "Where's mine?"

"What is Isabel to you?" Furlan glared, "What happened with Levi?"

"Do you want to have your head chopped off?" I threatened, "Who do you think you are? Sitting on your arse in front of a prince? Get on your knees."

Furlan grit his teeth and obliged as I hated myself more and more for becoming the thing I had sworn to destroy.

But I hadn't gone as far as father had.

"If you have questions then ask them respectfully."

"What is Isabel to Your Highness?"

"My cousin. Next question."

"Your cousin?!" Furlan gaped, "That means...that means...."

"That she has Imperial blood flowing through her veins," I finished the sentence, "I have chosen to not elaborate further. Next question."

"Why is Levi not attacking Your Highness?"

"Levi is the Empress's assassin no longer. He chose to be on a different side than hers."

"And why was Your Highness looking for me?"

"I decided to bring you above the ground because Levi had chosen to serve me."

"Oh," Furlan was surprised.

"Is that all?" I asked as he nodded, "Though I came to see you because I intended to ask my own questions, I have spent enough time on yours. I just wished to speak about one more thing."
