It had been a few weeks since any kind of talk between the two. They had come to realise how they wanted to lead their lives from here, even though it didn't settle well with them, they knew very well to not get any closer to each other.

It was weirdly suffocating, painful even. They hadn't expected themselves to feel so at all. After all, was it so hard to create distance with your apparent enemy? Certainly it was.

Nathaniel was struggling. His sleep paralysis was getting worse lately. He knew very well why it was happening but he simply couldn't bring himself to address it. He didn't like how he had to stay away from her, he hated this arrangement.

But it could not be helped. He had to go through this on his own and soon get back to his feet.

It was a tough day at work for Ambrose. She couldn't concentrate at all. Her manager had sweetly asked her if something was wrong but she simply shrugged it off, saying it wasn't much. She had heard the same concern arising from different people throughout the day. Was it really that obvious?

She couldn't help but think of Nathaniel. His gorgeous smile, fluffy hair, soft and pretty lips...ugh, she had to give it all up. It was so unfair. She despised this situation so much. She liked him so much despite not having time to process it.

She slammed a file on her desk, trying her level best to get rid of her thoughts. She couldn't believe herself in the slightest; it had been weeks and she was still thinking about him. She was obviously better than that. What had happened to her?

She lazily picked up her phone, scrolling through instagram. She had a lot of unanswered DMs but she could really care less. After being bored with social media, she switched to the news app. She liked reading articles so it wasn't much of a bother to her.

However, she was left surprised when she read the headline of the top most news under the business category.

The ex-CEO of Bechtel Group of Foundations, Johnathan Bechtel, exposed loopholes in the business of the McCoy group.

Her mouth was hung open at that, she definitely needed a minute to process that. She took a hold of the glass of water next to her and chugged it down in an instant before reading the article further.

She had realised that her father shared a lot of inside information to the media, most of it talking about how fucked up their reserves were. Ambrose could feel the McCoy shares being ruined just with the one article, considering the fact that the same article had been floating all across the media.

Her breath quickened, a pang of guilt in her heart. She knew what a tough situation that was for a young CEO to be in. Her worried mind couldn't help but think of Nathaniel. How was he even going to manage this mess?

She suddenly felt an immense wave of rage surging through her body, quickly dialling her father's number.

"Hey, sweetie."

"What the hell are you doing?"

He was quite surprised at his daughter's tone, definitely not having expected that.

"I thought we'd celebrate together this evening. The McCoy group is on the verge of completely vanishing. Most of the people are cutting off ties with them. Aren't you happy?" He spoke proudly, disgusting his daughter equally.

Ambrose's eyebrows scrunched up in confusion, eyes wide open. She could not believe the words leaving his mouth. There was no way he just did that.

"You're such a monster for this!" She spoke with an exasperated tone, ending the call right after.
