First, Mason had to leave for Croatia to play Dinamo Zagreb in their group-stage match in the Champions League. Unfortunately, the team lost, but the heartbreak didn't stop there. It came as a shock to everyone when it was announced that the team's manager, Thomas Tuchel, was sacked as a result of the loss.
And to top it all off, with the introduction of the new manager, Graham Potter, the queen died, which postponed Chelsea's Premier League games until after her memorial service.
With Mason stuck at home, he spent most of his time sulking in his room. Y/N felt terrible for him, truly. She tried her best to cheer him up, making his favorite meals for dinner or offering to watch his favorite movies.
Mason appreciated the gesture, knowing how kind Y/N was.
Mason didn't realize how dark his room was now, the sun having set mere minutes ago. The football player had spent the last two hours in bed, scrolling aimlessly on TikTok to try and distract him from his current situation.
It didn't help when multiple fans on his "for you" page would constantly make edits about Tuchel's shock departure. A quiet knock on the door made his head shoot up, his eyes adjusting to the dark atmosphere in the room.
"Mason?" A voice called out from the other side of the door. He quickly recognized it to be Y/N.
"Come in," he called out, his voice croaking slightly. He winced as the door opened, the bright lights from the hallway quickly flooding the room. He noticed Y/N's silhouette at the door.
The girl slowly walked into the room and closed the door behind her, standing awkwardly in front of the door.
"I just came to check on you." She whispered, nervously playing with her fingers. Mason blinked at her and didn't say anything.
Y/N walked closer to him. She stopped when she reached the edge of the bed. Mason shifted until he was leaning up against the headboard.
"Mind if I sit?" She asked, pointing to the edge of the bed.
Mason nodded, and she took a seat, sitting on top of the duvet that his legs were currently underneath. She bit her lip and examined the football player in front of him.
