𝐘/𝐍 𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐎𝐋, with water all the way up to her torso as she leaned against the pool edge, her arms crossed over one another as she rested her head in between. She had been sitting there for what felt like hours, lost in her own thoughts as the sun beat down on her skin.

She had come to the pool to clear her mind, but instead, she found herself sinking deeper and deeper into a funk. She couldn't shake the feeling of sadness that had settled over her like a heavy blanket, suffocating her.

Y/N closed her eyes and leaned her head down, letting out a deep sigh. At that moment, all she wanted to do was go home.

That's when she heard Chris's voice, and she opened her eyes to see him approaching the pool. She smiled weakly at him, grateful for the distraction.

"Hey," Chris said, looking down at her.

"Hi," Y/N spoke softly as she picked up her head from her arms and squinted at Chris. His body was blocking the sun, casting a dark shadow over her, making her feel cool.

Chris slowly lowered himself into the pool beside her, letting out a contented sigh as the cool water enveloped his body. He glanced over at Y/N, who had returned her head to her arms and was staring straight ahead of her.

"I didn't think you'd still be here," Chris joked, glancing over at Y/N. She only shrugged, turning over to look at the football player.

"Where else would I be?" Y/N spoke in a tired, unbothered tone. Her eyes fluttered closed as she released a deep breath, feeling only the sun beating down harshly against her back.

Chris felt a pang of worry in his chest at her response. He noticed Y/N had been a bit quiet for the past two days, and he couldn't help but wonder what happened.

He studied her for a moment, taking in the way she looked so small and vulnerable, hunched over with her arms resting on the pool's edge. She had always been such a happy and smiley person, and seeing her like this made him feel helpless.

"What's wrong?" Chris asked, his voice low and gentle.

"Mhm?" Y/N murmured, barely opening an eye to look at him.

"Why aren't you with Mason?" Chris pressed, hoping to get to the root of the problem. He had guessed that her mood had to do something with the fact that she was here, and not with his teammate.

"You don't want me here?" Y/N spoke quickly, her voice tinged with a hint of insecurity.

"No, that's not it," Chris assured her. "I just thought you'd be with him tonight since he has a game and all."
