"Y/N?" Chris approached her with a look of worry on her face. She jumped slightly at the sound of his voice, dropping a couple of spoons. Y/N quickly bent down, with Chris following suit while helping to pick up the silver utensils.
"Hi Chris," she mumbled, greeting him awkwardly.
"How are you feeling? Robyn said you were sick." He mentioned it, bringing up her coworker. Y/N nodded, remembering the lie that she told Robyn and him on the phone.
"Yeah, I'm alright." She grinned, giving him a forced smile.
"Good, uh, um, do you need a ride home after work?" Chris offered, standing up with the girl.
"No, it's fine." She shook her head, making Chris frown. "I'll take the train."
Usually, Chris would always give her rides home, seeing as the girl couldn't drive. It was normally fine, but now, with Alex's warning, she wanted to avoid the American as best as she could.
"You sure?"
"Yes. I have to go." She finished quickly, walking away from Chris. The football player sighed to himself, feeling weird about the exchange. She seemed off. She clearly didn't want to talk to him.
He decided to leave it alone, hoping he would get another chance to talk to her before her shift ended.
Now, when Y/N's shift ended an hour later, the rain had only just begun to start. The last lingering rays of daylight had faded into a somber gray, and the first fat raindrops splattered against the windows of the training facility.
As the girl made her way to the front of the building, her footsteps echoing in the corridor, she noticed the downpour that had just begun from inside. The rhythmic patter of rain against the windows seemed almost hypnotic, a prelude to the drenching that awaited her outside.
"Oh no!" she gasped softly to herself, her heart sinking as she gazed out at the scene. The rain cascaded down like a curtain, blurring the world beyond. She watched rivulets form on the glass, tracing erratic paths like the thoughts in her mind. She pulled her jacket a little tighter around her in a futile attempt to ward off the impending chill.
