"I just don't want him to jump the gun," Ben sighed, adjusting his position slightly. Thoughts of his best friend and Y/N consumed his mind, clouding his judgment.
"Well, I think Mason is smart enough to know," Miles reassured him, wiping away excess ink from his client's arm. "And from what you said, she seems like a really nice person."
Ben nodded, but a sense of unease still lingered within him. "She is; I just don't know why I'm thinking so negatively about her. It's like an irrational fear."
Miles paused his work, giving Ben his full attention. "That's your boy, Ben. It's okay to feel protective. You care about him, and it's natural to worry when he enters a new relationship."
Just as their conversation reached a critical point, the door swung open, and Alex, Miles' new coworker, walked into the parlor.
"Who's in a new relationship?" Alex asked, unaware of the previous conversation and only hearing the last bit.
Oh, hey, Alex," Ben greeted, a small smile forming on his face. He was grateful for the distraction from his swirling thoughts.
Ben, are you alright, bro?" Alex asked, noticing the slight tension in the room.
"Yeah, just my mate and his girl," Ben replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
Alex leaned against the counter, his intricate tattoos on display. "Yep, been there, done that. Relationships can be a handful."
Curiosity piqued, and Ben's eyes widened. "How'd you mean? Bad ex?"
A solemn expression crossed Alex's face, and he let out a heavy sigh. "Terrible. Abusive and shit," he confessed, his voice filled with a mix of bitterness and pain.
"You serious?" Ben asked, his voice laced with concern. Miles stopped working and turned to look at his coworker, not expecting to hear the sentence from his employee.
Yeah, I caught her cheating with a coworker," Alex continued, shrugging his shoulders. "When I confronted her about it, she flipped and gave me this scar." He pointed to a faded mark on his cheek, just under his eye.
"Holy shit," Ben whispered, shocked by the revelation. He never expected to know someone who had endured such a traumatic experience.
"She sounds like a terrible woman," Ben said, shaking his head.
