Given your position in Kingdom, it wasn't a surprise that it ended up being you to guide the new hire around. You were handed a paper detailing the basics, stuff like her name and what she would be doing. It was a position very similar to yours, meaning that the two of you would be working together more often than not.
Her name is Sabine; an elegant name, you think. Her credentials offer an impressive background, and you're excited to finally have someone to help out that will actually know what they're doing.
You're waiting near the front foyer for her. Someone had said something about her being tall with black hair; they seemed adamant that you would know her when you saw her, and they mentioned something about her eyes.
Sure enough, after a few more minutes of waiting, a tall woman walks through the doors. Her hair is straight and black, and she's wearing a black turtle-neck shirt below a deep forest green jacket and black dress pants. She's wearing heels, but you can tell that she would still be fairly tall without them. But out of all the things, what stands out most about her is her eyes. They're a brilliant emerald green. You get lost in tracing the wing of her eyeliner with your gaze for a second, brought back to reality as she walks over and introduces herself.
"Sabine Callas," she says, reaching out a hand for you to shake. You tell her your name.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, glad to finally have someone new around here," you say with a smile, hoping that your cheeks aren't as rosy as they feel.
You give her a small tour of the building, pointing out important rooms that she'll need to find. She isn't overly talkative, but she seems to appreciate your enthusiasm for your job. You try to ignore how your breath catches in your throat after she gives a little laugh at a joke you make.
Working with Sabine is easy. Not only does the work that you had gotten used to doing on your own go by quicker, but you also find yourself very much enjoying the company. She's incredibly smart, and it's obvious that she puts a lot of thought into what she does. By the end of the day, you think that you could easily consider her a friend and you hope that she would do the same. For the first time in a while, you actually really enjoy, and look forward to being at work.
You're almost sad to see the clock show 5:00, meaning that it was time for the two of you to leave.
"It was nice getting to know you, and thank you for showing me around today. Have a safe trip home," Sabine says, putting on her coat again. She holds her keys in her hand and looks out of the window nearby, frowning at the rain that taps against the glass before pulling a small umbrella out of her bag. You smile at her.
"Of course! I'll see you tomorrow, drive safe, Sabine." She turns to look at you and it seems like she thinks about saying something else for a second but decides against it, shaking her head slightly and turning to walk out the door of your now shared office. As you start to pack up your own things and pull your coat on, you start thinking. You hate to admit to yourself that you have a crush this quickly. You only just met her but it's like you already know each other so well. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but you want to believe that she feels the same way and that's why she hesitated before she left.
You look over at her desk, still fairly empty, only to notice that she forgot her laptop.
She's already gone from the hallway when you pick it up and leave to look for her. You don't really think twice before quickly making your way through the halls, Sabine's laptop secure in your arms as you attempt to make it to her before she leaves. It's not like it's the end of the world if she leaves it, but she had mentioned wanting to get something done tonight, and if you had forgotten something you would have wanted someone to bring it to you. It's definitely not just because you just want an excuse to see her again so soon. Definitely not.
By the time you get to the parking lot doors, the rain is steadily coming down, ensuring that the moment you step outside, you're guaranteed to get soaked. You don't hesitate before you tuck the laptop into your coat to protect it from the rain and step outside.
You manage to catch her just as she's unlocking her car.
"Sabine!" You call out. She looks up at you, surprised. "You forgot your laptop," you explain when you get closer.
You're a little out of breath as you stand in front of her, and you move under the umbrella slightly to show her the laptop that you've kept safe and dry beneath your coat. The rest of you is completely soaked. It's a little ridiculous, you think.
"Thank you." She seems surprised that you went through all the trouble with the rain and everything for her. She takes the laptop in the hand that isn't holding the umbrella.
It's like time stops for a minute. The two of you just stand there as the rain continues to fall around you. She looks like there's something she wants to say again, just like earlier. Something she wants to tell you but just can't bring herself to. Her eyes drop down to your lips for just a moment, and that small movement tells you everything you need to know.
You reach up a shaky hand, partly from the nerves and partly from the cold of the rain that has left even your shirt beneath your coat damp.
Sabine leans into the kiss just as much as you do. It's short and soft, but you still feel your heart flutter when the two of you part again. She seems a little surprised, and you can't exactly blame her because you feel much the same way. But both of you are smiling and you laugh a little.
"I'll see you tomorrow," you say, still trying to process what just happened.
"Yes, thank you again."
Sabine gets into her car, and you leave to head to yours. You don't even feel the rain that continues to fall around you. You're far too concerned with the fact that Sabine kissed you. You kissed Sabine, and Sabine kissed you, which meant that she did, in fact, feel the same way about today. You think about how you should go about asking her out as you unlock your car and sit down behind the wheel. It feels just a little bit backwards to go from the first kiss to the first date, but you can't say that you mind at all.

Later that evening, you hear the notification for your phone go off. As you pick it up and look at the name on the screen you smile.
Sabine: Dinner tomorrow after work?
Seems like someone is already one step ahead of you.
That would be amazing. You type back.
