DESCRIPTION:

You've been married to Chamber since before the protocol. No one has yet to find out, not because you don't want them to know, but rather because they don't expect the cocky, flirty sniper to be close with the stone-cold fighter.

After a long mission, you decide that you don't want to bother with waiting for Sage or Skye to heal you. Because of this, Sage walks into the kitchen to find you in Chamber's arms, crying as he tries to comfort you.

No one could understand how you managed to put up with Chamber. Frankly, they were surprised that you even seemed to tolerate his presence. You always looked so serious; completely unreadable. On missions, it was completely the same. Regardless, Chamber didn't seem to care as he continued to shower you with compliments both on and off the field. Phoenix and Jett have a bet going on how long before you finally lose your patience with him.

The mission is long. Everyone is exhausted by the time the aircraft returns to the base. It's late; the sun had set hours ago and you think that if you weren't so on edge you could have probably fallen asleep on the way back.

Sage is busy helping a handful of the agents, while Skye tends to the ones that don't need immediate attention. Overall, the mission was a success but that didn't mean it came without injury.

Of course, you had gotten hurt. It wasn't something that you weren't used to and many have seen you shrug off worse. It wasn't bad enough to warrant going to see Sage or Skye, and the exhaustion was starting to get to you so you had decided just to wait until they weren't as busy.

Chamber followed you toward the community kitchen, easily finding his place beside you with a hand resting lightly on your hip as the two of you walked. You could tell he was worried about you, as he always was, but didn't say anything until the two of you were alone in the kitchen.

It was, thankfully, not as bright as it usually was during the day. The bright and obnoxious glare of the fluorescent lights is gone, replaced by the soft glow of a few floor lamps. It's enough for people who are coming into the kitchen late to be able to see, but dim enough to not wake you up completely if you were to grab something in the middle of the night.

"You did wonderfully out there, as always," Chamber praises, grabbing the tea from the cupboards.

You only hum in response, the pain in your side steadily growing as you stand there with him. Doing your best to ignore it, you reach up to grab the mugs that he will soon need, but immediately regret it as your ribs protest and pain blossoms in your chest. You can't help the whimper that escapes you as you wrap an arm around yourself and lean heavily against the counter.

Chamber is quickly at your side, hand rubbing your back comfortingly.

"What's wrong, love?" He asks, concerned.

"I'm fine, just my ribs. Bruised, not broken. I'll be fine."

You know he frowns even though you can't see it. He knows how stubborn you can be, and he knows that he's not going to be able to convince you to go see Sage or Skye.

So instead, he just wraps his arms around you and lets you lean against him.

Whether it's from the pain in your ribs, from how tired you finally start to feel, or maybe even just because of the way he's brushing his fingers through your hair; but for whatever reason, you feel the tears gather in the corners of your eyes.

Sage, finally done with those who had come to her after they landed, walks to the kitchen to get some water before she turns in for the night. She doesn't expect to see anyone when she gets there. Everyone else that she had seen tonight had said that they were far too tired to do anything else, and it was already late when they had returned anyway.

Seeing you when she gets there is the first surprise to her of the night. The second is seeing you in Chamber's arms, shoulders shaking slightly in with a quiet sob. Chamber looks over at her, almost concerned. She's almost confused for a moment to see that you're so close with Chamber of all people, but it's at that moment that she notices the wedding band on Chamber's hand that rests on your back that everything clicks.

"Is everything alright?" Sage asks softly when she gets closer. She sees your shoulders tense, but you don't turn to look at her.

"Their ribs. They didn't think it was bad enough to wait for you or Skye," Chamber explains.

Sage nods and rests her hand on your shoulder.

Almost instantly, you feel a soothing coolness wash over you from where her hand rests. The pain in your chest steadily subsides and you let out a relieved breath. The only thing that hasn't been fixed is how tired you feel.

"Thanks, Sage," you say, only leaning back from Chamber slightly. She smiles as she grabs the water from the fridge that she had originally come for.

"Of course, goodnight, you two." Sage leaves the room, leaving both you and Chamber alone again. You let yourself lean into him again. You feel him move as he laughs quietly.

"Forget the tea, mon chou, let's get you to bed," he says, laughing again as you groan in annoyance when he tries to move with you in his arms. He solves this problem by easily picking you up, to which you do not protest.

"Thank you, Vincent," you mumble into his shirt. He presses a kiss to the top of your head in response.

"Anything for you, mon amour."
