DESCRIPTION:

Viper has watched you work out many times before. It's only a coincidence that the treadmills face the rest of the gym, and it's not like she watches on purpose. It's definitely not on purpose and you totally don't catch her attention every time that you're in there.

That's what she tells herself anyway.

It just isn't fair that today is the first day you've ever worn a shirt without sleeves before.

GENRE: Fluff

It takes a lot to catch her attention. Viper is notoriously focused and almost immune to distraction. At least, that's what she used to think; until you joined the protocol. She's caught herself staring at you on more than one occasion, a habit that part of her doesn't want to break just yet. It was harmless, really, and she had a feeling that you knew that you had got her attention if the way that you would smile to yourself across the table at meetings when she shook her head and turned away.

Now, she was sure that you knew.

She was doing her normal exercise routine in the gym, running on one of the treadmills as you walked in. The only difference from any other day when you would come in to exercise though is the fact that today you're wearing a tank top. Which means that your arms are completely visible. Which, in itself, is completely mundane and normal, and not something that should make her breath catch in her throat the way that it does. Every other time, you've worn a full sleeve shirt; one that still clung to the muscles of your arms and left little to the imagination, but now without it, she has a full view of the intricate designs of black ink that crawl up and down your skin.

You walk over to the salmon ladder, something she's watched you complete more than once. It's practically right in front of the treadmills, that's why she ends up staring so often. No other reason.

This time, when you reach up to grab the bar she can see the way your muscles flex. She traces your arms with her eyes, committing the sight to memory. Each time you raise yourself up and throw the bar higher, she finds that she has to focus on her run just a little more to make sure she doesn't fall off the treadmill completely. You finish it with ease, getting to the top and back down. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but when you turn away to head to your next exercise, she swears she sees you smirk; as if you knew what you were doing to her the entire time.

She only realizes how long she's been staring when she hears a familiar laugh beside her. She looks over and finds Brimstone stepping onto the treadmill beside her, shaking his head with a smile. "By all means, don't let me interrupt," he says, "do continue to stare at them and pretend you aren't head over heels."

"Shut up," she bites back, her tone too defensive to make her case any better. Brimstone laughs again.

"Didn't think you were the kind of person to get so embarrassed, Viper. You know, I'm sure they would be happy to let you get a closer look at the tattoo if you asked."

Viper doesn't need to turn to look at him to know his grin is smug. She doesn't grace him with another answer, only scoffs. He stops teasing her about it for now, but he can see the way she continues to steal a glance at you across the room as she runs. He'll tease her about it later, knowing full well that he was the one who suggested the short-sleeved shirt to you when you were thinking of ways to really catch her attention.
