Sabine had worked for Kingdom so she knew very well how dangerous they could be. She knew that their tactics were far less than ethical. Regardless of her previous ties to the corporation, what she knew for absolute certain was that she was going to do anything to get you back.
Your radiant abilities were complicated to understand. You seemed to be able to manipulate radianite and amplify it in certain ways, which made you the perfect target for Kingdom.
When Kingdom made their offer to you, Sabine had immediately told you to stay far away from them. Not that you had planned otherwise anyway, but she seemed particularly protective of you after that. A big corporation like that could easily sweep things under the rug if they needed to and Sabine had seen it happen when she worked with them. So when you went missing, she knew exactly what had happened.
Sabine stares at the table. She couldn't find it in herself to cry yet. Crying meant that she would have to admit that she couldn't protect you.
Brimstone puts a hand on her shoulder and says something reassuring to her. Everything has been fairly distant to her. She hasn't been sleeping well and it's getting harder to focus. She knows she should be taking care of herself to make sure that she's at her best for when they finally come to rescue you, but she just can't bring herself to let herself rest while she knows you're out there somewhere being used for Kingdom's own gain.
"I found her," Cypher's voice is clear to Sabine as he walks into the room holding a tablet in his hands. He seems just as relieved as she is and she knows that he's been spending nearly all of his time trying to find you too. He sets the tablet down on the table.
"We'll get a team ready to go first thing in the morning. Viper, go rest. I know I'm not going to be able to talk you out of going but you need to at least be in good enough condition to go." Brimstone explains. Sabine glares up at him.
"Why are we wasting time, we need to go now," she bites back.
"I need time to look into the security measures of the facility. I can have that done by the time you will leave tomorrow. Get some sleep, Viper, for her." Cypher assures her.
"Fine." She gets up, stumbling only slightly before she walks to her room.
The bed is cold and empty without you in it. She reaches for your pillow and finds at least some comfort in the lingering smell of your shampoo. For the first night in a while, she forces herself to get some sleep. It's hard, but knowing that she had to be at her best to get you back was enough.
--
You glare at the glass window that separates you and the scientists.
They hadn't taken your refusal well and had attempted to force you to cooperate with them. Which only ended in a handful of the other scientists being unconscious or severely injured. Part of the problem was that you weren't even sure of your own powers yet, so it made it difficult to work with them even if you had wanted to.
A few days had turned to almost a week. No matter how long had passed, you were determined to cause as many problems for Kingdom as you could.
The scientist looks back at you frustrated before he turns suddenly. An alarm blares and you can see the fear in their face before the room is filled with a green smoke that you know all too well.
It takes a moment, but soon enough the door is flung open and Sabine is standing there.
She runs up to you, and you wrap her in your arms with just as much emotion. She doesn't say anything, just hands you a mask similar to her own and grabs your hand after you put it on. The two of you start running.
--
Sabine doesn't let go of you, even once you're safe inside the airship. She holds your hand and sits as close as she can to you and you let her. You missed her just as much. She lifts your hand and presses kisses to the knuckles which she notices are bruised. She frowns at that, and you can tell that somehow she must think this is her fault. You don't say anything yet, instead you wait till the two of you get back and are alone in your apartment.
The moment the door closes, Sabine is hugging you again. This time, it's accompanied by a sob. She would never let any of the other agents see her like this so you know how much effort it must have taken to wait this long to finally let her guard down.
You let your own tears fall down your cheeks.
"I'm sorry," Sabine says into your shoulder.
"No, you don't have anything to apologize for. This wasn't your fault," you attempt to reassure her. "I know you want to think there was something that you could have done. There wasn't. It wasn't your fault, and everything is fine. I'm okay." You run a hand across her back.
She leans back and kisses you and you can feel the heartache of the past week.
"Why don't we go lay down?" You suggest.
Sabine seems hesitant to let go of you, but nods. Even as the two of you walk to the bedroom she keeps a hold of your hand.
"I'm not going anywhere, Sabine," you whisper as you lay down beside her. She holds you tight, resting her chin on your head and her arms around you. "I promise."
"I was so scared I had lost you. I didn't know what they would do to you." She's still shaking a little. You gently shush her.
"I'm okay now. You don't have to worry about it anymore. You saved me. I'm okay."
She presses a kiss to the top of your head. "I love you."
"I love you too, Sabine."
