----

There was always the risk of something going wrong on a mission. Always the threat of getting hurt, but that was something that all of you were well aware of and even prepared for. It was your job. It just happened that this mission ended just a bit worse than most.

You got out of it better than most of your teammates. Sage and Skye had a long line of people waiting for their help when everyone returned to the base. A stray bullet managed to graze your shoulder, which did hurt a lot but didn't need the immediate attention that a lot of the others did. The worse one was when one of the mirror agents, who you thought was already dead as they lay on the ground, lunged out with their knife, catching you off guard and slicing into the side of your thigh.

The whole mission was long and exhausting, and as you tried to wait for the others to get help first, you realized just how drained you felt. You ended up heading to the dimly lit commons area to sit down and rest for a little while. It was early in the evening when you left, but now it was well into the night, so the lights were already turned off and you didn't have the energy to go find the switch to turn them on again.

A little while turned into a little longer.

You're stuck in a state between sleep and consciousness. Every time you manage to get close to resting, you would shift and pain would blossom from your shoulder and your leg. You should really go get Skye or someone to help, but you can't bring yourself to move. You aren't even sure what time it is, and you really don't want to try to look around for a clock to find out.

You look up quickly as you hear a noise from the kitchen area and a sudden light fills that part of the room. Chamber is reaching for a coffee mug, still dressed in the usual formal uniform that he always wears on missions. He must have just gotten back from somewhere, or he's having another late night working on his weapon designs.

He turns towards you, and you see him jump slightly, clearly not anticipating seeing anyone out here this late. He leaves his mug at the coffee machine as it begins to brew the single cup and walks over towards you.

"You're up late, y/n. What are you doing up here in the dark?" The light from the kitchen is bright enough that as he gets closer he can see the blood that stains your clothes and the rips that expose the flesh underneath the fabric where you were hurt. You see how his smile immediately drops and his brow creases. He's by your side in a second.

"What happened? Why didn't you go to Sage?" He asks, clearly worried. You shake your head.

"It's not that bad. They were busy and I came here to rest while I waited. Just got too tired to go find them after." You try to assure him you are fine, but you move your arm slightly and wince.

"Let me go find her for you then," he says and goes to move. You reach out your uninjured arm and grab at his sleeve.

"No, it's fine. She's probably really tired. I can find her in the morning if I need."

He frowns at you.

"Then at least let me help."

You know that if you refuse, he's just going to go get Sage, so you nod. "Okay."
