Days off weren't common, so the time that the two of you did get off of work you liked to spend together. Chamber had been reading something while you laid down beside him, resting your head in his lap where his hand found its familiar place on your head with his fingers brushing through your hair.
Chamber remembers all of the little things about you. He remembers the foods that you refused to eat, movies that you mentioned you couldn't stand, simple things like that. Right now, he remembers the time that you had told him that you could never seem to fall asleep easily, especially when it came to napping in the middle of the day. He remembers it because at the moment, your head is in his lap as the two of you sit on his bed and you're fast asleep.
You look so calm when you sleep. There's something so domestic about the simple act of napping with him that makes his chest tighten a little. His hand freezes in your hair. He doesn't even want to breathe too deeply lest he wake you up. You lean into his hand even in sleep, and he relents and continues to move his fingers through your hair.
The two of you stay like that in silence. He knows that you're probably going to apologize for falling asleep on him when you wake up, but he honestly hopes this won't be the last time it happens.
Sure enough, in a few minutes, you're slowly blinking awake but you don't move from your place in his lap. You bring a hand up to groggily rub at your eyes for a second. You look up at Chamber with a sheepish smile.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep," you apologize, just like he thought you would.
"It's quite alright, mon cœur. Did you have a nice nap?" He asks, and you hum.
"I did, you make quite the comfortable pillow." You reach for his hand that has moved to rest on your cheek and press a kiss to his palm. You smile at the blush that spreads across his face at the gesture.
"While I did not mind at all, I thought you said that you couldn't sleep during the day. Are you feeling alright?"
"I normally can't, but I feel fine. I guess I just feel safe with you." You answer so easily, closing your eyes again with a smile as you continue to hold onto Chamber's hand. You don't see the way Chamber's eyes widen at the admission.
"What do you mean?"
"I trust you. You make me feel safe," you say it like it's just a given fact. Like it isn't something that makes his face flush and his chest hurt.
Chamber feels his heart swell. He's never heard anyone say that to him. Everyone he's met has approached him with a constant reservation. Always hesitant to tell him anything. He's never known what it's like to be trusted by someone fully. To have someone give their heart to him in confidence. And to hear it from you of all people is making him far more emotional than he feels is rational. He feels the tears pricking at the corners of his eyes before he has the chance to stop them.
You open your eyes in time to see him bring his other hand up to wipe at his eyes. You sit up and turn to him in concern.
"Vincent, what's wrong?"
He laughs softly, tears falling down his face.
"Nothing, I'm fine. I'm sorry, I just-" he stops, laughing again as you hold his face in your hands, thumbs brushing away the tears. He tries to take a breath to calm himself down. "I'm sorry, mon chou, I don't know why I'm crying. Really, I'm okay," he tries to reassure you, covering your hands on his face with his own. "I've just never heard anyone tell me that before. It's nice. I'm sorry if I have made you uncomfortable," he explains. You know how he hates crying in front of people, even you.
"Tell you what? That they trust you? I can tell you as many times as you like." You kiss his forehead. "I know you'll always be there for me." You press another kiss to his cheek. "Whenever I'm around you I feel the safest I've ever been." You turn his face to kiss his other cheek as he laughs. "I love you." You kiss his nose. "I trust you, Vincent." You finally kiss his lips. He's still crying, but you can tell that they are definitely tears of joy.
"Thank you, mon amour," he says when you part. "I love you so much." He hopes you understand just how much you mean to him. How much you have changed him and how the very thought of you is enough to brighten his day. He's so thankful to have met you, and he's determined to make sure that you always continue to feel safe with him.
You wrap your arms around him, pulling yourself into his lap. He holds you tight against him, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
The two of you stay like that for a while. Chamber leans back against the headboard of the bed frame, and eventually, both of you are asleep in each other's arms, Chamber's book long forgotten on the bed.
