Miall

The training field was the centre of all peace. For once in a long time, I felt as if I wasn't confused and knew exactly what it was that I wanted to do.

And not be hated for it...

It was as if everything had disappeared, and being alpha or Miall didn't matter; being alive felt easier. The smell of the earth that wafted through my nose, the fields of green that went on for yards, gave me a wind of serenity.

However, it was hard not to shift during this kind of training. Everything would have been easier and quicker if I had shifted, but the whole purpose of this training was to see how long we could hold out on shifting. Malakhi wasn't making it easy.

Yes, I was alpha and could hold my ground, but Malakhi was very competitive when it came to such things, and Amanah cheering him on right now instead of me wasn't helping.

One would've thought that she would be here to support me after her proposal just a few days ago, but no. She loved being the bane of my existence—she enjoyed it.

The peaceful aura that had filled the field had diminished the minute Amanah came with her cheer squad, saying that it would motivate us to train harder since males liked showing off.

She was right; we liked showing off, which ticked me off. Malakahi was annoying and giving me a hard time all because Amanah cheered for him.

How she cheered his name so loudly and cheerfully pushed me closer and closer to the edge. I agreed to be only hers, yet she wasn't obeying her offer.

"Screaming out another man's name," I tsked, and Malakhi snorted.

Although we agreed to be each other's relief, we hadn't even gotten around it. Right before we did, Amanah had second thoughts and stopped me.

The reason was loud and clear, and as much as I wanted to, I left it at being rejected by her, and she seemed relieved. I guess her feeling that way was understandable.

Things between Willow and I were still unresolved. I had avoided her since the welcoming party, and I couldn't muster up the courage to face her after she caught Amanah and me.

I felt guilty, but I was not as drawn to her as I used to, and I honestly felt like shit. I know I'm in love with her. Who wouldn't?

She was beautiful, intelligent and funny. Time spent with her was cherished, but lately, all those feelings I used to feel with her had been forced out.

My eyes found the woman who had been plaguing my mind lately. She talked to her cheering squad, her smile wide on her face, and she moved her hands animatedly.

She's stunning.

"You're distracted," Malakhi said as he lunged toward me; Amanah screamed, and I stared at her. She looked worried for a minute before adding confidently.

"Don't go easy on him, Malakhi! Throw him across the field!"

My eye twitched as I held onto his waist; I dug my feet into the ground and picked him up, throwing him over my shoulder. Shouldn't my mate be on my side and not my beta's? They should stop spending time together.

Wait—my mate?

"Dick," he groaned as he hit the ground. "You don't have to be so rough because Amanah is watching," he whispered, and I smirked, giving him my hand.

"I was distracted for a second," I shrugged, and he kissed his teeth. "Okay, to make you feel better, you can throw me over your shoulder, too."

"Deal," he smiled as our fists bumped against each other.
