Amanah

After Miall woke up, he had to stay at the hospital for an extra day to ensure his vitals were stable. Malakhi offered to stay with him, and Anin dragged me to her house.

Where she made sure I ate...a lot. Not that I was complaining, but I had to say the most exciting part of staying with Anin was all the sleep I caught up on.

The woman was a pregnancy guru; once she put me into the perfect position to sleep, I was gone. She put down a pillow to put my leg over and instructed me to sleep on my left side. I was pretty sure I snored and farted a couple of times, but Anin did not complain.

She was reluctant to have me return to Miall's house, and I understood wholeheartedly. I had been ignorant of my surroundings and gave into fantasy, which had been nothing but horror, not entirely, but I had been fooling myself with the idea of things getting better.

I sat in the kitchen, mindlessly stirring my cold tea.

"Good morning," Miall greeted softly, and I turned to greet him.

"Good morning...Orion?" I asked, and he smiled as he sat down before me

"Hi, little girl," he greeted, smiling.

"What are you doing here? Won't Miall get mad?" I asked worriedly. Don't get me wrong, I was stoked I could finally see Orion, but if he was doing it out of stubbornness, I didn't want to be caught in the crossfire.

"It's okay. Miall is resting, so he asked me to take over for some time," he said calmly, and I released a relieved breath.

"For how long?" I asked, and he smirked, leaning against the counter.

"That eager to get rid of me already?"

"No! Heavens, no, I want to know how much time we have together," I smiled.

"Lots of it, but could you please help me do something with this hair?" Orion pulled the hair and looked annoyed while staring at it. "Every time I attempt to do something about it, he somehow wakes up, but I have a feeling that since it's you, he won't mind."

"Eh, I don't know, but since you're asking so sweetly, I will gladly help!"

Orion sat on the chair while I readied the clippers in the bathroom. I combed through his hair as I sprayed it with water simultaneously. His hair could make some pretty bundles. It was healthy and long, and it smelt so good.

"Amanah, you do know what you're doing, right?" Orion asked as I grabbed the hair scissors. I smiled, looking at him through the mirror.

"Of course." I tied up the hair on the top of his head and used a comb to pull out the layers, trimming as I went while Orion chatted up a storm. Oh, I missed him so much!

He was telling me stories of his youthful days and how much fun it used to be being part of the gods. Most of his words confused me, but I was engaged in the conversation.

He talked about parties out of this world, experiences that I, for one, would never imagine. It was almost like a whole made-up fantasy, but because it was Orion, I believed him.

"Is this short enough for you?" I asked him as I combed through his hair again. I had reduced the length but not so much that Miall would have a fit about it. I also gave him a taper fade, and he would probably have a fit.

Orion's golden eyes assessed the hair on the mirror before his eyes met mine in the reflection; my breath stuck in my throat when he smiled as he ran his fingers through his hair.

"No, but I can live with it," he said, and I nodded.

"Come on then, let me wash your hair," I instructed him to follow me to the bathroom. "Kneel and face me since you're tall enough," I said as I opened the water by the sink. He grinned and put his hands on my waist, expressing that he was balancing himself.
