Amanah
"Ugh, why do I still need to drink this?" I groaned as Miall passed me a bottle full of his blood, which I found horrid.
"Because you need to get better," he kissed my forehead, and I pouted.
"But it's disgusting," I whispered as I adjusted Maniah properly in my arms. She pulled my nipple between her gums, and it took all that was in me not to scream because I didn't want to scare her. "Stop biting me."
I poked her cheek, and she looked at me with a cheeky grin. Just like her father.
"Just three months ago, you were greedy for it, and now you don't want it anymore?" Miall asked as he sat down, and I raised my eyebrow.
"Are we talking about your blood?" I questioned, and he looked at me exhaustedly. I laughed and looked back down at Maniah. "I don't want it right now," I emphasised and looked at him from the corner of my eye, and he sighed, covering his face. "I'm playing Miall, but I no longer want to drink your blood. It's disgusting," I shivered.
"Too bad, you're going to have to drink it eventually," he said as he got up, pushing the bottle of blood closer to me.
"But I don't want it! Can't we do a blood transfusion or something?" I asked as I followed him.
"You're afraid of needles, Amanah," he bent down to pick up Kye, who was crawling right next to him, trying to catch up. I loved to see how overprotective he became over Kye and how he was suddenly his best friend. So much for a man who didn't want to share his space with this cute baby.
"I'm not that afraid of needles," I grumbled as I pressed Maniah against my shoulder, waiting for her to burp.
I had heard women speak about how they never get to do much when the babies are born, but I never thought it would be to this extreme. What was sleep? I don't know, but it's a luxury I CAN'T AFFORD!
Sure, Miall was always here to help, but he was just as clueless as I was, and I just felt like if I closed my eyes for a second, something would happen to my baby, and I couldn't let that happen. So what was so hard about sacrificing just a few hours of sleep? As long as she's okay, right?
"Your mommy doesn't want to drink my blood because she finds it disgusting. Don't you find that funny?" Miall asked Kye as he pulled him up to his height. Kye giggled as he stared at Miall. I was pretty sure Kye found Miall to be a big joke.
"But she used to be greedy for my blood; what a huge change. How can my mate not find my blood sweet?" he grumbled as he pressed his face on Kye's belly and rubbed against it, making Kye laugh harder.
"The huge change is how Maniah doesn't look like me anymore. She adopted all of your features overnight, and it's totally unfair," I muttered. Miall gave me the same cheeky grin Maniah had given me earlier, but at least he had teeth.
"Well, we can't blame the genes, can we?" He shrugged, and I clicked my tongue as I walked over to Maniah's bed. "Wow, at least she's like you in something. Right after she eats, she falls asleep," Miall whispered as he stared at her in awe, and I snorted as I tucked her in.
"That is not true," I tucked my hands under my shirt as I thought about what to do while she slept. I felt a bit lost since she was sleeping, and Kye was clinging to his father, his favourite parent. If he had to choose which parent to go to with both of us present, he always chose Miall.
"Should I draw you a bath while she sleeps?"
"No, it's okay. She'll wake up soon," I shook my head as I looked down at her.
