Rooster's POV
After we shower, we get dressed, and go to dinner at this place Phoenix texted me about. Jake puts cologne on as he drives and I say "you are a very irresponsible driver" and he says "do you want to drive?" I chuckle saying "I trust you, I'm just saying you're a bit reckless" and Jake smirks, holding my hand. Jake says "what do you think you're going to do after we graduate?" I say "I think I'm either going to enlist or get an upgrade on my degree depending on what you do." He says "if I enlisted, I would be able to be a commander in two years time then I'd be sitting in an office like the old guys that run this place. I like flying too much that I don't want to throw it away for just an everyday thing though, ya know?" I say "yeah, if you graduate here, you can teach here if you want. It opens doors" and he says "I'm not good with kids though." I say "they wont be kids, they youngest they could be is like mid twenties to get in here. You have to have a little bit of flying on your resume and you have to be considered one of the best to even get asked to be here." He says "true. Flight school takes almost two years and you have to have some missions under your belt before you get asked to be here. So I'd be dealing with people between like twenty five and our age?" I say "yeah, pretty much" nodding and I say "I think it would be good for you. Its technically missions working here too. I think if you still did the things they deal out here or whatever, you could still rise the ranks and be a commander in two years time like you said." Jake says "what's your degree in?" I say "education" and he says "what was the goal with that?" I say "it was the back up plan. I and especially my mom was always worried something would happen to me like what happened to my dad. If I lived from it, I needed a career to fall back on cause I knew my mom wouldn't let me get back in it, so I chose an education degree. I picked education because there's so many options. I could get another two year degree in anything and say I can teach this all the way to high school level or I could do something here because I have experience with that too. Opens more doors, gives you options." Jake says "I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up when I was growing up that's why I decided to go to flight school and get where I am today. For me it was one of those things that would buy me time to figure out what I wanted to be. But now that I'm here, I like what I do" quietly. He then says "I think I'm just gonna graduate then see what I can do" and I say "when I graduate from here, I might come back and teach while I finish my degree. Maybe specialize in physical education or social studies or something" shrugging. He pulls into the parking lot and he holds my hand as we walk in. He says "we could teach together at Top Gun. Do it together" and I say "I like that, were gonna have to talk more about it later though" and he says "of course." I kiss him saying "I love you" and Jake says "I love you too" and we let go then we go in. Jake talks to the lady at the front desk as she kind of stares at me. She points at the table and I smile at her as we walk by and Jake mumbles "I think you made her faint." I say "shut up" him resting his hand on my lower back and I smile, shaking my head at him. He says "are we hear to party or argue today?" He pulls his hand away from me and we sit down, him sitting across from me. Jake puts a toothpick in his mouth and I smile and I see Phoenix and Justin walk in. Justin sits next to me and Phoenix sits next to Jake and Jake gives me a look. I nod. He's still not totally warmed up to Justin. He says "if it isn't my favorite person?" I say "hey, man, what's up?" He says "nothing much, you?" Bob says "who is this dude?" I say "Phoenix's bf" and they all are oooing like children. Jake says "he's not that special, stop the oooing" and Justin says "hi, Hangman" winking at him and Jake says "hi, Justin" rolling his eyes. I chuckle and I stare at Jake in the eyes and he furrows his eyebrows at me. I just shrug and I stare at him because I can. Bob says "I see why you were telling me to try going out with a guy now. Some are hot" and we laugh and Phoenix says "that one is mine, you can have the two at the end of the table" pointing at Jake and I. I say "I didn't sign up for this" and Jake says "I didn't either" us all chuckling. I say "does anyone know what were doing tomorrow?" Phoenix says "no idea" and Bob says "confidential" and I say "oh right" looking at Justin and he says "I'm not going to say anything." Jake says "I don't need to risk going to jail on a military crime on some guy I just met's word." Justin mumbles "this guy doesn't like me, does he?" I say "not very much, no" chuckling and Jake winks at me. A woman comes over and she comes to our end and smiles at me saying "what can I get y'all for drinks?" She seems like she doesn't want to wait on a table of twelve and I say "I'll take a water" and Jake says "me too" smiling. He says "thank you, ma'am" with his slight southern accent and I can tell she's just wowed by him being nice to her. She goes around the table, us all being nice to her. Really nice because we feel bad for having so many people that she has to deal with. Jake says "on her name tag it said trainee" and I say "I am tipping well then, poor thing" chuckling.
