Why Try To Change Me Now?

Ava finished getting ready as she had the day off. Jackson had gone to work earlier that morning as Ava went into the twins room as they were having a nap. The twins were still asleep as she made her way to marks bedroom.

He was playing with some of his toys as Ava sat beside him. Mark moved over and sat in her lap as she kisses his head. "Hey buddy what you got there?" Ava says as she picks up a book which she realises is one of her old photo albums.

"Who's that mommy?" Mark asks as he points to one of the photos.

"That's was your uncle Mark. He's the person who gave you your name." Ava says as mark looks at her.

"Where is he?" Mark asks as Ava looks at the picture.

"He's in the stars with uncle Derek. See he was uncle Dereks best friend and he was like our brother. He also taught your daddy how to be a surgeon." Ava says as she smiles at Mark.

"Can I be a surgeon like you and daddy?" Mark asks as Ava wraps her arms around him and place a kiss on his head.

"You my sweet boy can be anything you want to be. And mommy and daddy will always supports whatever you want to be." Ava says as mark hugs her.

"I love you momma." He tells her as she holds him closer.

"I love you too Mark." She says as she kisses his cheek and then begins to play with him.

Ava had put all three children to bed as she was laid on the couch watching a tv program as Jackson walked in. He saw her as he went over as he laid on top of her with his head on her chest.

"Bad day?" Ava asks him as she places her hand on his cheek and strokes it with her thumb.

"A long day Bailey and mom have pulled in a education Physician. Dr Eliza Minnick she accessing the program seeing where to make changes. She's had all the residents this morning so that messed with my schedule and then they've rank us all who they like best guess where I was?" Jackson says as Ava smiles at him.

"Top of the list." She says as he smiles at her.

"Second actually you were the top of the list. Which I don't mind being if it's to you." Jackson says as he kisses her as Ava kisses him back.

Ava dropped the twins off at daycare as Jackson had taken mark to preschool as she was checking the O.R. Board. She turned as she saw someone stood beside her. "Hi I'm Dr Eliza Minnick I don't believe we've met." Eliza says holding her hand out.

"Dr Shepherd-Avery." Ava says as she shakes her hand.

"So your the double board certified in trauma and Ortho surgeon." Eliza says as Ava nods her head.

"Yeah also the head of Ortho and a board member." Ava says as Eliza nods her head. "Anyway I should go see if there's any incoming trauma." Ava says as she excused herself and walks away.

Ava finished up with one of her patients as she handed her tablet back to the nurse. She turned around as she saw Jackson with Ella again. They seemed to be in a deep conversation as Ava walked towards them but pretended to be seeing one of her patients.

"Look things between me and my wife are my business. I will tell her when I'm ready." Jackson said sounding frustrated.

"Fine Jackson but I can't keep this a secret forever. It's not fair to Lily." Ella says to him as Jackson lets out a sigh.

"I know but I need to do this my way." Jackson says as Ava hears enough and walks away.

Ava was walking down the hallway as she had finished her shift as she bumped into Amelia. "Hey are you okay?" Amelia asks looking at her sister.

"Yeah I'm fine are you busy?" Ava asks as she looks at Amelia.

"No I'm about to finish why?" Amelia asks as she concerned for her sister as she looked at her expression.

"I've got to go somewhere is there any chance you and Owen can have the kids tonight? I would ask mer but she's got her hands full with her own." Ava says as she looks at Amelia.

"Yeah it's fine but what about Jackson?" Amelia asks as Ava looks at her.

"He's uh working late he's got a surgery." Ava says as Amelia quickly hugs her sister as Ava stands slightly confused.

"Ava if there's something going on you can talk to me or someone?" Amelia says as she looks at her sister.

"I'm fine I just I need you to watch the kids please." Ava says as Amelia nods her head.

"Yeah that's fine we'll watch them." Amelia says as Ava nods her head.

"Thank you there stuff is in the daycare." Ava says as she quickly walks away to her car as she drove away from the hospital.

Ava sat in the exact spot she sat around a year ago, So much had changed since then. She had her babies and mark was now in school. Thing between her and Jackson were rocky. Callie had left with Sofia to New York. She was now the head of Ortho. Amelia and Owen were married. Alex was facing a felony charge. She sat listening to the waves crash against the ferry boat.

She needed a minute to feel close to Derek and this was the only thing that seemed right. Her mind was racing what was going on between Jackson and Ella? Was there something between them? Was he cheating on her? Did actually hate the life they had together? What would happen to them?

The questions raced through her head until she looked up at the stars as everything began to fade out. She missed when things were simpler when she had Derek, Mark and Lexie. She felt alone. People had their own things going on and she didn't want to burden them.
