Cold As Ice

Ava sat staring at the email on her laptop before hearing her husbands footsteps near. She quickly closed her laptop before Daisy ran towards her. "Good morning." Ava said smiling while she lifted Daisy into her lap and kisses her head.

"Momma." Daisy said cheerily. Ava looked up while Jackson carried Harry in with Mark following behind them.

"You want to help me make breakfast?" Ava asks her daughter who nodded smiling before Ava walked into the kitchen. She placed Daisy on the counter while Jackson sat with the boys.

Ava looked up at her family seeing how happy they were before the email crept into her mind. She had no idea of what to do so she chose to ignore the thought and made the kids breakfast.

Ava dropped the kids off at daycare before going to change into her scrubs. Ava headed into the E.R grabbing the tablet from the nurse. "Hey Avery when did the twins start sleeping through the night?" Owen called out while Ava looked at him.

"Good morning to you Dr Hunt." Ava said sarcastically while Owen looked at her.

"Yeah sorry morning. I just can't get Leo to sleep through the night." Owen said looking exhausted while Ava gave him a small smile.

"Well Mark slept through the night at about 4 months old but he would only sleep to white noise. The twins were about the same but maybe a little longer because the would take it in turns to be awake." Ava tells him honestly while Owen nods in response.

"So white noise that worked for Mark?" Owen asks before he gets called outside.

"Yeah then it's was his comforter you've just got to find what works for you and Leo." Ava tells him before he calls out thank you while she goes to check on her patients.

Ava looked at Owen ask they discussed the where about of April. "Mason he's with a patient upstairs he might know where she is or Jackson they were talking this morning." Ava told them while Meredith looked at her.

"I'll go talk to Mason and you talk to Jackson." Meredith said before Ava nodded her head in response. Ava headed off to go find her husband.

Ava ran to the O.Rs where she found Jackson and Mason both getting ready to scrub in for surgery. "Hey I caught you both." Ava said looking at her husband and best friend.

"Barely we've got a lot of victims from these apartment fires. What's up?" Jackson asks her.

"Have you seen April? Or know where she is?" Ava asks while Meredith joins her looking at Mason and Jackson.

"I haven't seen her. She was volunteering all weekend. I've had Harriet." Mason says while Jo rushes in.

Meredith looks at Ava and shaking her head. Jo talks to Mason and Jackson before they get ready to head into surgery. "Did you need something?" Jackson asks his wife.

"No it's fine I'll catch up with you after." Ava says giving him a fake smile. She didn't want to concern either of them until she had to. April was Jackson's best friend and she meant a lot to him. Ava didn't want to worry him until they knew more.

The two women quickly headed down to the E.R to find out what was going on with April. Ava headed into surgery to help Richard with Matthew while the others worked on April.

Ava had swapped with Bailey before going to help the other surgeons with April. Ava was switching out with Meredith and the interns to warm Aprils body up.

Ava and Alex looked up as Mason and Jackson burst into the room. "How long?" Jackson asked while Ava looked at her husband.

"3 hours." Meredith replied while Mason looked at all of them.

"Why the hell didn't you say anything?" Mason snapped as he fought with Alex to get to April.

Ava walked over pulling Jackson out of the way as Maggie put April on Bypass. Mason sat beside April while Ava held Jackson's hand praying she'd come back.

Maggie had got Aprils rhythm going as relief washed over all the surgeons. Jackson and Mason sat with April while Ava went up to check on her kids and Harriet.

"Hi mommy." Mark said wrapping his arms around Ava while she smiles picking him up and holding him tightly. "Too tight mommy." Mark giggled causing Ava smile.

"I'm sorry baby. I love you so much." Ava said kissing his head while Mark smiled at her.

"I love you momma." Mark replied hugging her again before going to play with some toys. Ava hugged and kissed the twins.

Everyone has sat waiting for April to wake up while Ava handed them each a coffee. Jackson pulled her into his lap his eyes not leaving April.

April woke up to everyone's relief before Meredith asked her what she remembered and if she had any weird experiences which she didn't. April smiled at them all which they all returned grateful their friend was going to be okay.

Ava put the kids to bed before reading over her email as Jackson came out of the bathroom and laid beside her. "What's that?" He asked looking over her shoulder at the laptop.

"An offer to run the trauma centre at Stanford." Ava mumbles while Jackson looked at her slightly shocked but a smile on his face.

"That's the best trauma centre in the country. I'm so proud of you." Jackson said pressing his lips against her. Ava looked at him with a small smile. "What's up?" Jackson asks her.

"I don't know what to do." Ava said honestly while Jackson looked at her.

"Follow your heart. If this is what you want then that's what we'll do." Jackson says while Ava looks at him.

"Our lives are here Jackson and I can't ask you to just pack up and leave everything." Ava says while Jackson shakes his head.

"Your aren't. Ava this is your career we're talking about this could be it for you. You know I would do anything for you. We can always come back and visit. We have family here." Jackson says looking Ava.

"You'd actual go this? Leave everything behind and move to California?" Ava asks him.

"I would do anything for you and I can get job at the hospital with you." Jackson says smiling at her before she leans over and kisses him.

"I love you Jackson Avery." Ava mumbled resting her head against his.

"I love you Ava Shepherd-Avery." He mumbled kissing her again.
