– A.R.P.

It's my father's initial that's why I suddenly felt scared because I know him more than anyone else. I've been with him since I was eight and I was the one who tasted his heavy palms that he often used to slap me and his sharp words that suffocates and makes me feel like a puppet.

I could feel my face getting pale because of the nervousness that I'm feeling after reading the text message.

Flashback.

I didn't want to be left alone with him in this hellish mansion but I didn't have a choice. I'm actually glad that my parents were finally divorced but sad at the same time because I'll be left alone with my monstrous father, but it's fine atleast my mom and twin sister is already free from my insane father.

I remember the day when my mom was crying in front of me while saying sorry because I had to be left behind while my twin sister Luan and her will live somewhere else.

"Anak, I'm sorry." My mom said while crying.

Why is she crying? She should be happy instead because they're able to escape from my cruel father.

"Mommy, it's fine." I said while forcing a smile.

"Your father didn't allow me to take the both of you with me, he's making me choose one." She said while still sobbing.

I swallowed the lump on my throat because I know that I'll be the one who'll taste my father's cruelty alone. But it's fine, right? As long as my mommy and my twin sister is safe, it's fine with me. After all, I have been ignorant of the fact that Luan was the one who's suffering since I don't even know when.

"It's fine, mom. You can choose Luan besides she's been through a lot already. I want her to live peacefully too, i'll be fine, mom." Pilit ang ngiting sabi ko.

"My Athiane is a brave girl, I promise I'll get you out of this hell once I get a chance to do so. I love you so much, anak." She promised.

She promised, a promise that I knew from the start that it will never happen. But still... My mommy will not break her promise.

I held her promise, I trusted her words. While I was experiencing my father's cruelty I always repeat it in my mind, I hold in to her words, her promise was my only hope.

"Sirene, I heard that you're the top two in your class." My father said without a hint of any emotion that made me tremble in fear.

"Yes, po." I answered nervously.

I almost jumped off my seat when he slammed his hand on the table that made a loud noise. I was biting my lower lip to suppress my tears when he suddenly stood up and grabbed my uniform's collar.

"You're useless! Manang-mana ka sa nanay mong walang kwenta!" She yelled angrily.

"Wala akong anak na bobo!"
