Warnings: mentions of illness, death of a parent, worry
Third Person POVEmilio gasped when he heard the door open, his head shooting up. "They're home!"
Quentin chuckled as he watched Emilio jump up and speed to the door.
Jesse felt something bang into him the second he walked into the door.
"Jesseeeeee."
Jesse chuckled, hugging his brother. "Hey, Lio," he greeted. "How are you feeling?" He was extremely relieved to know he was better.
Emilio pulled away for a moment, gritting his teeth a bit. "Hold on, dizzy spell," he informed him, holding his hand up as to tell them to give him one second.
Samuel looked at Quentin, a bit concerned.
Quentin shook his head. "They're apparently common with double ear infections... or any ear infections," he explained. "They don't last long, but I haven't let him get up much because of them," he informed him. He sighed softly to himself. "It freaked me out at first though."
Samuel sighed softly, sitting down and pulling Quentin close. "Yeah, it would've freaked me out too," he mumbled, resting his chin on Quentin's shoulder.
Emilio opened his eyes again when the dizziness faded. He grinned when he saw Gabriel. "Gabe!"
Gabriel smiled. "Hey, Lio."
Emilio noticed two other people with them. "Oh, we brought the partners too," he commented.
Jesse blushed a bit. He leaned over to Jada. "Sorry, he gets a little more blunt when he's sick," he murmured to her.
Jada had a smug grin on her face from the blush on Jesse's cheeks. "It's fine." She pressed a soft kiss to his cheek and smiled at Emilio. "Hey, Lio. How are you feeling?" she asked.
"We missed you at rehearsal," Mateo added with a soft smile.
Emilio smiled a bit. "I'm better," he answered honestly. "Papa said I could go to rehearsal tomorrow," he informed them, bouncing lightly on the heels of his feet. He was usually far more energetic and quick with his bouncing, but they figured it was the dizziness that was making him slow down and be a bit calmer.
Samuel looked at Quentin, getting a bit concerned again.
"But he said I can't dance much yet," Emilio added with a frown.
Samuel exhaled in relief.
Quentin sighed dramatically. "You have no faith in me, do you?" he questioned.
Samuel shot him a look. "No, I have plenty of faith in you," he responded. "I'm just aware of how weak you are against a certain pair of puppy eyes." He nodded his head towards Emilio.
Quentin chuckled lightly. "Fair point."
"It's unfair too," Gabriel muttered from next to them. His arms were crossed as he watched Emilio, Jesse, Mateo, and Jada talk. "He doesn't even try to use them; they just come out."
Quentin chuckled. He looked up at him. "How was school?"
Gabriel shrugged. "Same old, same old."
"Gotta get away from the same old, same old," Samuel sang quietly to himself.
Gabriel looked at him. "That's not a musical you quote often," he commented. "What's the occasion?" he asked.
Samuel chuckled. "What if I was singing the non-musical version?"
"You weren't."
Samuel chuckled again, hearing Quentin's laughs too. "Fair enough." He smiled. "There's no huge occasion, we're just looking into options for next year's shows."
Gabriel nodded, internally noting that Rock of Ages was one of their options.
"Emilio," Quentin called to him. His voice was light, so he didn't scare him, and there was an air of concern laced in as well. "Why don't you come sit?" He could practically see Emilio struggling to stay up.
Emilio pursed his lips, before they formed a pout. "But I don't want to sittt," he complained a bit. "I want to move- and flip!" He moved to try to do a trick, but was stopped.
Jesse caught him before he could flip. He chuckled. "Not while you're still recovering," he told him. "Come on, sit your butt down." He picked him up and sat him down next to Quentin.
Emilio pouted.
Quentin wrapped his arms around the boy and pulled him close. He brushed the hair off of Emilio's forehead and kissed it lightly. "Well, still no fever, so that's good," he muttered.
Agreeing, Samuel nodded.
Jada chuckled as she sat down. She looked at Mateo. "Which one is the baby of the family again? I can't tell," she commented.
Mateo chuckled. "I know. They don't make it obvious at all," he responded.
Both Gabriel and Jesse looked over at them, the exact same expression on their faces. "He'd get himself killed if we weren't here."
Mateo and Jada chuckled.
"Some could say the same about you two," Emilio grumbled, pulling the blanket he had gotten up to his mouth and cuddling close to it.
Quentin chuckled. "You all keep each other alive and I'm very grateful for that," he said.
"But Emilio is definitely the youngest," Samuel added for Quentin. He patted Emilio's head. "You two definitely act like protective older siblings."
"I wonder why." Gabriel raised his eyebrows at them. "I mean, have you seen that face? It makes you wonder how anyone could've ever hurt him."
"Very easily, actually," Emilio commented as he leaned back against the couch.
Quentin chuckled weakly and pulled Emilio close, running his hands through his hair. "Someone has even less of a filter when they're sick, huh?" he mumbled. "Somehow."
Emilio smiled a bit, laying his head back against Quentin's shoulder.
Quentin smiled. He sighed softly, mainly to himself. He was just happy that Emilio was okay.
Samuel noticed this. He gently took Quentin's hand and kissed his knuckles. "He's okay," he mumbled to him. "I know you hate sicknesses."
Quentin swallowed, a bit uneasy at the mention. "Yeah. Losing a parent to illness does that to you," he muttered.
Samuel nodded understandingly. "I know, love, I know. I don't blame you for that," he assured him. "I'm just reminding you that Emilio is okay, 'kay? He'll be fine."
Quentin nodded, smiling softly.
Emilio, who Quentin thought couldn't hear him, squeezed his hand lightly.
Quentin smiled. He tilted his head back and looked into Samuel's eyes. "I love you."
Samuel smiled. "I love you too." He kissed his forehead.
