✧✧✧CARLISLE WALKED INTO THE DUNGEON SLOLWY. He stared around at the the dark corridors and felt the chills spreading up his spine. He hated knowing that this was where she was. Carlisle didn't have to look far, emerald silk caught his eye immediately, straight in front of the door. Her face was hidden but his heart swelled to see her wrapped in teal thread, his lasting touch hugging her shoulders.
He picked up the large set of keys from the door, wondering how the Volturi still managed to stay so medieval. She didn't move as he pushed through the keys until he found the corresponding number. Este only looked up when the lock clicked and Carlisle swung the door open. He saw her then.
Her hair was tangled slightly, tucked behind her ears. Este's eyes were so dark that it was eery to stare at, frightening almost. Her face looked thinner but this was simply the shadows. There was scratchings of ash on the side of her face from lying on stone but her eyes seemed strangely happy to be seen.
"Hello" she smiled.
"Hi" Carlisle closed the door behind him, "hi"
Este just smiled again and Carlisle felt his heart break. She did not know who he was, she'd forgotten him and with that his heart shattered on the stone floor between them. He tried to contain himself as he sat down on the floor in front of her, very slowly as not to alarm her. But Este seemed completely calm, she watched him with interest in her eyes as she played with a loose thread on her sweater.
"I... do you know who I am?" Carlisle asked gently.
"No" Este frowned, "should I? You're not that strange man are you? I'm always forgetting what he looks like"
"Caius?" Carlisle frowned.
"I don't know" Este replied, "I never remember things... I don't recognise you"
"That's alright" Carlisle stated simply, trying to ignore the yelling in his own mind and the memories that made him want to screw up his eyes and scream. While he sat staring at the love of his life, she connected eyes with a stranger.
"I'm waiting" Este sat up, smiling at him as though she wasn't locked inside a dungeon.
"Waiting for what?" Carlisle asked gently.
"I'm waiting for Carlisle" she grinned.
Carlisle's eyes widened in shock as he heard his own name. For a moment he was completely taken aback. What did that mean? She held onto his name like a link of lost love. She stared at him with open eyes and a smiling face but Carlisle didn't know what to say. For a moment he was stunned to silence before he found his words again in a flurry of his empty heart.
"I'm... I'm Carlisle"
"What?" Este gasped before she laughed happily, "finally... I've been waiting for ages"
"I'm sorry" Carlisle smiled, "I've been trying to find you"
"So who are you?" Este asked, "your name is the only one I can remember. But that strange man told me that I'd never met you before. It's all a bit strange, I don't know very much, he always asks me how I feel... I don't know how I feel"
"Um... it's hard to explain" Carlisle frowned, "I don't want to confuse you"
"Oh" Este seemed surprised, "but... I have met you before?"
