✧✧✧SIX MONTHS INTO LIVING IN DENALI, the Cullens threw a party. Alice had been insisting since they arrived that it was a necessity to have a housewarming party when they had family to invite in such close proximity.
The house in Alaska was beautiful. Everyone kept telling Este that she'd outdone herself. It was bigger than the last, continuing the theme of large windows and open spaces. The useless kitchen and living room were downstairs, dining room on the second floor with two of the bedrooms belonging to Rosalie and Emmet alongside Carlisle and Este. On the top floor was Bella and Edward, Jasper and Alice. Then in a small attic room filled with light was Stella's room. It worked out perfectly, surrounded by mountains with a lake out back, always cold but never enough to bother a family of vampires.
Carlisle had found a job in a hospital nearby as he always did and Este did a lot of tutoring online although she found she preferred designing houses, sketching them out for other families to find homes in. The whole thing felt very fulfilling to her, decorating and creating space and light. She found she enjoyed it more than teaching, it simply fitted her better.
Stella had started school with Alice, a college as they both passed for eighteen years old. Alice took up fashion again and at first Stella did a number of subjects because she couldn't figure out what she wanted to do but in the end she chose English which meant Este could help her, leant over literature volumes, writing notes and pretending like she was in a classroom again.
The others settled down to do smaller jobs. Emmett became a pe teacher in a nearby first school, Rosalie was never sure exactly what she wanted to do but she liked helping everyone else, a lot of the time spending time with Stella, writing storylines for sitcoms which may one day get produced. Jasper fell deeper into the idea of psychology which he found thrilling and Edward, finally happy to not be a high schooler anymore, relaxed for what felt like the first time in his life.
It was clear from the beginning that Alaska was going to be different, better. The Cullens were finally doing what they wanted to do, what they should've done years ago. The house felt more homely than it ever had done. It snowed a lot in Alaska, heavy flakes swirling in harmony down onto their skin in pinpricks of cold. It was fun to walk in, to stare up at and see the world slowly falling in beauty down on their faces, tanging in their hair.
However it didn't snow the day of the party. Alice had planned it all out perfectly. There were wires lights with small lightbulbs over the house, hung between the trees that littered their front yard. They had flowers on their fences and bright lights coming from inside the house for when the sky slowly dimmed. She'd set tables up, a canopy, large and cream to protect them if the weather did decide to change. There was music playing gently around them and her world seemed to calm with the soft idea of celebration.
Everyone who had helped them in facing off against the Volturi were there, even people Este hadn't met. Carlisle had a lot of friends from all over the world. Some from Egypt, Brazil, Ireland. She introduced herself to them all with a bright smile and she listened to ideas. She met Garrett who'd found love with Kate while the whole business with Stella was going on. He was charming and thoughtful, he fit in well with the family. She may Benjamin alongside and his talent of nature that caused more flowers to pool out of the trees and the small pots on the tables.
To her surprise, the four vampires belonging to the American government showed up. They had kind words to say about the Cullens and were a wanted presence but an unexpected one. She watched them integrate with the others around them with cheerful smiles and patient red eyes. A lot of the vampires around them had eyes of scarlet but it never mattered in those moments.
