ACT THREE, CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
Sweet Sixteen

ANDI COULDN'T GET THOSE FIVE MASKED SHADOW MEN WITH SWORDS OUT OF HER HEAD. Even when she tried to sleep, she was worried they would come back since the power was still out so she lit a few candles around her room so they wouldn't be able to appear out of the darkness. She even told her family to keep some candles lit nearby and even though her parents knew about the supernatural world the whole time, it still felt weird to tell them that the candles were supposed to protect them from masked men with swords coming out the shadows to attack them like they did to her and Isaac. Even with the candles lighting up her room, she barely slept because part of her worried that the candles would go out on their own will so they could sneak up on her.

When her alarm went off the next morning, she turned it off and crawled out of bed. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, her pink and blue hair in a messy ponytail and crust in the corners of her eyes. "Happy birthday to me," she mumbled to herself as she tossed a folded towel on the toilet seat and got in the shower.

The water helped to wake her up some more so when she got out of the shower, she was more awake and blew out the candles she put in her room before looking for some clothes to wear. As soon as she was dressed, she grabbed her bag and went downstairs to grab some food. Her parents were sitting on the couch watching the morning news while her grandmother was pouring mint tea into three mugs.

"Do you want some tea to take to school?" she asked as Andi put two toaster waffles in the toaster.

"Sure. Thanks, Grams," Andi replied as her grandmother poured some tea into a reusable water bottle and put it on the counter for Andi to take.

"Happy birthday, Amanda," her grandmother said with a warm smile and Andi smiled back as she hugged her.

"Thanks, Grams. I'll see you after school," she replied as the waffles popped and she took them out of the toaster.

As she passed the living room, her parents looked at her from the sofa. "Happy birthday, Andi," her mother said.

Andi sighed as her shoulders dropped and she tried to smile at them. If she was being honest, she didn't think they'd still be there. "Thanks, guys. I'll see you later," she said as she left the house and grabbed her bike.

She put the water bottle filled with tea in her bag and put the waffles between her teeth as she got on her bike and started riding to school. By the time she got there, she was finished with her toaster waffles and half of her tea was done. She saw Kira in the hallway and waved but the girl only briefly looked at her before turning around and scurrying away. Andi wondered to herself what that was about as she finished her tea and went to the washroom so she could rinse out her water bottle. Isaac was standing against the lockers with Stiles and Scott and Stiles noticed him looking at Andi as she disappeared into the washroom.
