ACT ONE, CHAPTER TWELVE
Pain, Pain, Go Away

JUST AS ANDI WAS LEAVING THE PARK FROM HER AFTERNOON WALK, HER PHONE CHIMED. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and unlocked the screen. There was a text message from her grandmother telling her that she wanted her to go to the vet's office. Andi simply responded with "okay" before putting her phone back in her pocket and heading towards the office like she was instructed to. When she got there, she didn't see anyone so she looked around since she didn't really get the chance to do so the last time she was there. When she heard footsteps, she turned around and saw Deaton standing there while opening the door for her to walk through.

"Hey," she said as she walked past the door. "Grams wanted me to stop here while I was out but I don't know why."

"I got her message too. She wanted me to tell you a few things about your growing power," he said.

"Why couldn't she tell me these things herself?"

"Because there are certain things she's not able to teach you."

Andi sighed as she followed Deaton into the back and she saw Scott and Isaac there. A dog with white fur was lying on the table and the boys looked at her when they heard her footsteps. Andi put her hands in her pockets while Deaton explained some of the werewolf abilities to Isaac. The dog has osteosarcoma and Isaac could smell it on him. Andi leaned against one of the tables as Deaton took Isaac's hand and placed it on the dog's side. She stood up straight when she saw his veins turning black as he looked at the whining puppy. Andi watched in awe and Isaac gasped when he pulled his hand away and his veins were still black until they vanished.

"What did I just do?" he asked.

"You took away some of his pain," Scott said. Andi could see the tears forming in Isaac's eyes and Scott chuckled. "I cried the first time too."

Isaac wiped his eyes and smiled while looking at the dog who seemed to be feeling a bit better than he was before.

"Andi, come here," Deaton said. Andi ignored the three pairs of eyes looking at her and walked over to the medical table. "I know you can reduce someone's pain but you can also transfer their pain from their body to yours like werewolves can."

Deaton instructed her to put her hand on the puppy's body and told her what to do. In order for it to work, she had to visualize the pain leaving the puppy's body and flowing into hers like a river. Andi exhaled slowly as she closed her eyes and flinched when she felt the pain going up her arm. Her veins didn't turn black like Isaac's but when she opened her eyes, they were green. When she pulled her hand away, her eyes were still green but turned back to their natural colour after she blinked a few times.
