Enchanted Nightlight

SHE COULDN'T BE MORE ANNOYED. It had only been two days since she was a student at Beacon Hills High and it was already becoming a living hell. One girl decided to pick on her hair colours and another was just downright arrogant. On top of that, she just witnessed another student being taken away by the police with loads of people watching and whispering and coming up with ridiculous accusations before they could even get the full story. She couldn't deny that she was curious herself but she knew very well that nothing much would be out to the public this early.

Andi's grandmother was taking a nap on the couch with some random program playing on the TV screen so Andi stayed in her room with a few snacks she grabbed from the kitchen. Her wrist was cramped from the excessive amount of writing she was doing for her English homework but she was determined to get it over and done with. Plus, it took her mind off of everything that happened on her second day of school.

As night fell, Andi fell asleep on her bed with her English notebook wide open and her pen slipping through her fingers. The only light source in her room was the lamp sitting on her nightstand so when she woke up, that was the only thing keeping her room from being completely dark. Her head was light and foggy as she stood up and walked out of her bedroom. It was like her body was being controlled by something or somebody else as she walked down the stairs and ignored her sleeping grandmother on the couch. She opened the door to the basement and everything was pitch black except for a dim green light that was at the bottom of the stairs.

Andi went down the stairs and followed the green light until she came face to face with the source of it. The green gemstone on the black cover of the book she found was glowing with a bright green light that was almost blinding. Andi walked closer until she was right in front of the shelf that had the book on it and her mind was like a complete void. She reached forward and picked up the black leather bound book and the light dimmed until the entire basement was dark. Andi suddenly felt dizzy and faint and she collapsed onto the cold hard floor.

Andi's grandmother heard the noise and she woke up immediately. She saw the basement door wide open and she turned on the light so she could see. She went down the wooden stairs and the first thing she saw was her granddaughter passed out on the floor with the old book right next to her. She was immediately on the floor gently shaking Andi until her eyes opened and her grandmother nearly gasped. The teen's irises were no longer dark brown but instead, they were bright green like the gem on the cover of the book.

"Expergefacio," she whispered in Andi's ear and her eyes returned to their natural dark brown colour.

Andi looked around and she became confused with many questions inside her head. Why was she in the basement? How did she get there? Why couldn't she remember anything?
