VII : Friends

A week later.

The finals are over. I breathe freely for the first time in weeks. Once the bell rings for the second time, all students head for the door in the most non-existent silence. They know the opening couldn't take more than two people- even my size. They don't think they can all pass, do they? I shake my head, stepping back, taking advantage of this break to check my messages. I have to join Joshua in a few minutes. Ms. Clarke is trying to calm us down but most of them are not listening.

Matthew : " I wish they could use those brains of theirs..."

Joshua: "You know they are not as SMARTY as you.. be patient."

Matthew: "It's not a smart issue, it's whether or not their brain functions properly.
Sometimes wonder if they do have one"

Joshua : "Have mercy on them Ô mighty Matthew"

Matthew : "How dare you to mock me poor human I reply falsely offended."

The exit was finally free I would walk quickly towards it while keeping my eyes on my phone which is not the best idea, as freely as I wanted to. I was walking rapidly in direction of the gym outside of the school. When suddenly a mass forms in front of me. I can no longer move forward blocked by it. I slowly look up before apologizing.

"Careful while texting your girlfriend ?"

This voice seems familiar. My eyes fell into his. His amused look on his back once again. I take a quick step back. And run towards the field. I can't believe, bumped into him of all people. Will I have to lay even lower than usual? How could I met him after all these days? Just when I thought everything was back to normal. So many questions. They are piling up in my head by the dozen without me finding adequate answers. I start to sweat. I wince the feeling of sweat that accumulates on my skin is by far the one I prefer.

My breathing becomes difficult I lack air. I stop to catch my breath leaning on my knees. Being chased never again. Fortunately, I arrive alive -barely in the changing room.
Joshua is surprised that I was already here, in less than 5 minutes. My new record.

We decide to go to the bar before going home. To celebrate the end of finals. One drink, two drinks, three drinks down. We start laughing at nothing. The atmosphere is light and I feel the pressure slowly vanishing since this morning. Joshua stopped laughing and his facial expressions darkened.

"Bring me to your race..."

"What? I nearly choke on my sip of beer."

He laughed saying never mind as if what he said didn't matter.

"It's just that I never taught you would.. keep things off from me. We know each other for years and..."

"No. It wasn't. " I try to justify myself.

"You know, I am sorry if I ever made you feel like you couldn't tell me everything I..."

"I- Tomorrow night."

"What ?" He looks confused

" Yes," I confirm by nodding.

His eyes regains their brightness once his mind figured out what I meant.

"YES!" He yelled causing the other people to turn at him. A glance at him then returns to their boring conversations.

We started laughing again. It is good to feel like we're going back to the old days. But I must keep Joshua's identity a secret.
We left the bar a little staggering we stank of alcohol from miles away. Once we arrived in front of the car Joshua leaned towards me I felt his warm breath on my neck.

" You know..." He whispered before blacking out, falling head first against the cold table.

Thank you for reading !!!

Ash is back...what do you think Matthew should do? Avoid him or confront the problem?

Also we get to see more of Matthew and Joshua's friendship.
So Matthew finally agreed to tell someone else about the race and even bring him to one. Joshua is already so enthusiastic.

I am looking forward to reading your comments.

Also there's again two chapters this weekend.

See you next week.
