Silver's POV
Two weeks later.
"G'day mate."
He has been avoiding me since our last confrontation. It was uncomfortable to say the least for thr past few days since we're the only two living in the house. We feel like complete strangers once again. I don't even know why I persist I should have learned after all those years spent with him. I would get nothing until he cools down. The problem is that I didn't expect to go on for that long.
This time, surprisingly, he looks up at me slowly nodding. Usually, he would have replied enthusiastically. Although, he did not answer since he was too engrossed in what he was reading on his computer. I approach to take a look discreetly. This is an article about the league from about five years ago. We were still in high school when we joined the league. underdogs who skipped classes very often. Going to empty parking lots to have a good time instead of being at school. It seems so far away and yet the memories are still vivid in my memory. it was during one of our getaways that we met Ricky who was hanging out in the same place when we thought we were alone. We were blown away watching him drive. he seemed so comfortable behind the wheel. He highlighted incredible dexterity and a mastered speed in short we thought we were in a movie. An extremely realistic action movie. When he saw us he was as surprised as us and then asked what we were doing there.
High schoolers should be in school we couldn't figure out if he was joking or if he was serious because he didn't sound like he was scolding us or reproaching us. Kim hurriedly starts questioning him, his eyes shining with anticipation and admiration for this stranger. Even if he showed some signs of embarrassment he offered to take turns getting into the car with him. Kim rushed over and went first. when he got out of the car he was even more amazed. Ricky laughed to his face seeing Kim's face. Then he offered to give us some lessons if we wanted to. Kim's very certain yes was the answer for two. But at one condition.
" I will teach y'all after school. If yall skip again the deal will be broken."
Kim's enthusiasm cools a bit. He tensed although he agreed to obey his promise." Don't try to lie, I would know no matter what." He said once again with the same tone back.
" We will not deceive you."
Kim seemed determined and sure of his decision. I had never seen him so enthusiastic about a few things. And since that day we haven't missed a single class. He was doing his best, he was investing like never before. Ricky had seen some things in us, a potential that even we weren't aware of. Every day we are improving more and more. We weren't the best at first nonetheless Kim never wanted to give up. We became a family in just a few months. We were brothers. He often referred to his little brother although he never got the chance to introduce us to him. I wouldn't have expected it to be Matthew. At least until recently when I first saw his wolf necklace. One look and I knew it was his. Because we both had invested our entire month's pay in this precious jewel.
I feel so sorry for him. I dare not imagine what he must have felt or even endured after his death. He surely knows the rumors and links between the league and Ricky's death. So why did he come anyway? Would he have any leads on his killer? Come to think of it, he never really confided in this subject. he is quite reserved. Or? No. no. It couldn't be. That's not it. I should start to investigate on my own just to make sure.
" Are you going to the race tonight?"
" I am not."
" It's already been a week."
" Yeah, I am aware of that. Thank you."
" You can not avoid him forever. "
" I know Silver. Trust me I know. I just need more time to figure things out."
