Seb ran his hand through his overly long blonde curls, sighing in frustration. Oliver had once again climbed over the safety gate and gone downstairs before Seb or the girls had woken up. For the fourth time in a fortnight Seb had gone downstairs and found the playroom trashed. Every toy box had been emptied. The arts and craft drawers had been pulled out. There was paper, card, tissue, wool and glitter everywhere.
"Oli," he began. "What have I told you about climbing the gate? That was very naughty!"
He tried to be stern, but as he looked down at the cherubic three year old he found himself fighting a smile. He really was adorable. His parents told him that the boy was the spitting image of him at the same age. No wonder he'd been able to get away with everything, or so his sisters often told him.
Oliver batted his thick blonde eyelashes, staring at his father with his large, ocean blue eyes. "Oh Oli, what am I going to do with you?" he muttered, scooping the small boy up in his arms and heading into the kitchen. He growled with disbelief as he saw the fridge door gaping open and the full tray of eggs smashed all over the lino. He placed Oliver on his booster seat at the large oak dining table.
"Pancakes?" Oliver asked. Seb shook his head.
"Not today son," he said. "We're running late. Your sisters are still in bed and Maddy will be here in half an hour to take them to school, then she is going to take you to the soft play centre. Plus we now have no eggs."
Today was Tuesday and one of the two days he got the majority of the day to himself. He had planned on going to get a haircut but it seemed that he would be sorting the playroom out again, and cleaning the kitchen floor instead.
Then later in the morning he was popping over to see Antti at the gym, he'd probably have lunch with him and Britta before going to do a grocery shop.
He had started having it delivered when Harmony had first left, but he had soon decided that he liked to see what he was buying instead of having someone else pick it for him.
Then after he'd taken the shopping home and put it away he'd go out for a run before Maddy brought the kids back.
"Such an exciting life Sebastian," he muttered to himself. It was a massive contrast to how he'd used to live his life. Being a Formula 1 driver had been hectic, exciting and non stop.
Being a full time dad was equally as rewarding but in a totally different way. He'd do anything for his kids, anything, so he had no regrets but he wasn't made for a quiet boring life like this. He should be out there on the track battling Lewis and Fernando, just like the old days.
He sighed as he began to feel guilty over his thoughts. His children were his world. He just had to accept this was it now.
He heard footsteps thundering down the stairs.
"Good morning girls," he called out.
"Morning Daddy," Heidi said, coming into the kitchen, Bruno following behind her. "Did Oli climb the gate again?"
"He did!"
"Naughty Ols," said Myah, following her sister and the dog into the room.
"Cereal or toast?"Seb asked, kissing both girls on the tops of their heads.
"Cereal," they both said in unison. Seb nodded. He popped some bread into the toaster for Oliver, then took two bowls out of the cupboard and half filled them both with Multigrain Cheerios. He added semi skimmed milk and then carried them over to the table.
