"What the hell am I doing?" Savannah said as she shoved some towels into her backpack.

"Going to have an afternoon of fun?" came the voice of her best friend through the speaker of her phone which she'd put on the bedroom windowsill whilst getting ready.

"But Daisy, I don't know him, or anyone else for that matter." She'd been in a state of panic since Sebastian had texted the previous afternoon to confirm details and had informed her that there were going to be several other people going too. It was one thing going over to meet his kids, something totally different to be faced with numerous people she didn't know.

"That's the whole idea, isn't it? Get to know them, make new friends. You can't go for six months out there without adult company. It'll drive you crazy."

"You know how hard I find it meeting new people."

"I know girl, I know. But you can't back out. He is one seriously hot man! Don't you dare tell Joel I said that. I will deny it!" Savannah laughed. She knew that Joel wouldn't care. He knew his wife loved him. They'd been together since they were fourteen years old, back when Savannah had been at school with the pair of them.

"He is pretty hot," she agreed. "But nothing's going to happen. This is just for the kids to meet."

"Hmmm maybe, maybe not. I must say I'm very surprised. As you know Joel is a big Formula 1 fan and he said that Vettel has always been a bit of a mysterious person outside of racing. He's very private. No one has ever seen photos of his kids. I mean, their names are not even public knowledge. And he's only been pictured a handful of times since retiring from Formula 1. His ex-girlfriend is always in the tabloids.  Since leaving him she's hooked up with some hot shot American film producer.  They're always at red carpet events.  I mean no one knows for sure but speculation is she doesn't even bother with the kids."

"Reminds me of someone," Savannah said bitterly.

"Christian still not seen Max and Case?"

"Nope.   I guess I should be grateful that he helps support them financially, but I'd give up all the money to make him a decent hands-on father."

"They're better off without him.  And so are you!"

Savannah sighed.  She knew that Daisy was right, but she just wished that her ex-boyfriend could have been the father her kids deserved.  "How are my godchildren?" she asked Daisy.

"Oh, they're great.  Noisy, messy, doing my head in, but great," Daisy said affectionately.  "Ellie-Mae just got made a member of the school council, and Alfie made the school football team."

"That's wonderful.   Give them both a big kiss from Auntie Sav.  I'm sorry I didn't get to see you all before I left.   You'll have to come and visit over the summer holidays maybe.  Max and Casey would love to see the twins."

"That would be great.  I'll speak to Joel and see what he says.   Shit, I heard something break in the kitchen.  Gotta go.  Have a great time. Text me the goss.  Love you.  Bye bye." The call disconnected.

Savannah sighed.  She really wished right then that she'd never volunteered to move in and look after Rufus.   She missed Daisy, Joel and the twins so much already.   And her parents and even Jack, her annoying younger brother.   Still, her grandparents had asked her at the right moment.   She'd just been laid off at the publishing company she worked at, and although she was doing some freelance editing work it was nothing she couldn't take to Switzerland with her.

She'd been sick of seeing Christian and his glamorous new girlfriend swanning around the village like they owned the place.  It made her sick that they were living it up in the Manor House that she'd once called home, while she and the kids lived in a small two bedroom flat above the local hairdressers.
