Savannah Matthews felt her heartrate speed up as stared into the bluest, prettiest eyes she had ever seen. She'd always been a sucker for a man's eyes. For her it was always the first part she noticed. Well nearly always. She'd ignored the dull lack of life in a man's eyes once before and look where that had gotten her! This man's eyes though...they were full of life, they were twinkling, and she felt like they were staring into her very soul. For what felt like minutes, but in reality was just seconds, she was hypnotised by his sapphire blue orbs. She had never seen eyes so blue.
Seb felt his body reacting to the brief touch of her hand. Had he been without female attention for so long that just a second's touch could have him desperate and burning? He found himself hypnotised by her eyes. One was a pale ice blue, the other a deep green. He'd heard of people having different coloured eyes before, the late singer David Bowie being one, but he'd never seen it for himself. It was strange but...
Then all of a sudden, a voice snapped both of them out of their stupor.
"Mummy! Max said that we're having fish for dinner. I don't like fish! Tell him Mummy!"
Seb glanced at the red car next to him and saw a young dark-haired girl looking out of the window. She looked around the same age as Heidi.
The woman in front of him continued to scoop up the scattered fruit and vegetables.
"Casey, we are not having fish. Max! Stop trying to wind your sister up!" she said in a posh British accent. Seb almost groaned out loud at the sound of her voice. He'd obviously known Charlie and Olivia's granddaughter was British, as they were from there themselves, but he hadn't expected her to sound posh, and he found it as sexy as hell.
"Who are you?" asked the girl, Casey as he now knew her name to be. Seb smiled at her.
"Hello, my name is Sebastian. I live over the road."
"Sepastinun?" Seb gave a hearty laugh. She wasn't the first child he'd heard struggle to pronounce his name. His sister Melanie's nine-year-old son, Konrad, still couldn't get it right.
"Sebastian," he repeated. "But you may call me Seb." The girl seemed to lose interest in the conversation and her head disappeared back inside the car. He turned his attention back to her mother.
Savannah found herself unwilling to look Sebastian in the eye again. As soon as she'd heard him tell Casey he lived over the road and that his name was Sebastian she'd realised he was the world-famous former racing driver, a multiple world champion if she remembered correctly. Her grandmother had told her all about him and how he was raising his three children alone.
"Hi," she heard him say. She knew she had to talk to him. She wasn't a rude person, and he'd been trying to help her, but she felt extremely nervous all of a sudden. She reluctantly raised her eyes up to meet his again. "Hey, I'm Sebastian. You're Charlie and Olivia's granddaughter, yes?" She nodded and stood up, abandoning her collection of the fruit and veg. Sebastian stood up too and held his hand out. She shook it swiftly.
"Savannah," she told him. "And the two reprobates in the car are Casey and Max." As if hearing his name mentioned a dark-haired boy stuck his head out of the window.
"Mum! I'm hungry."
"Max, you are always hungry," she sighed. It was true. The boy never stopped eating, although you'd never know that by looking at him. He was tall for his age, he'd be eight the following week, and he didn't have an ounce of fat on his body. His grandfather, her own dad Clive, often joked that he had hollow legs.
Seb smiled at her. "I have one of those myself." Savannah frowned, not quite sure what he meant.
"Pardon?"
