Savannah looked at Seb like he'd lost his mind. Her mouth kept opening and closing like a goldfish's.
"What....God...how...fuck," she stuttered, before turning and walking off, leaving him stood there alone. He chased after her.
"Sav, hear me out." She stopped and turned to look at him.
"Have you totally lost it? Marry you? Christ, we've kissed twice and you're talking marriage?"
"Sav, listen, I meant a marriage in name only! We get married, you get to stay here. You'll be safe away from him."
"But what's in it for you?" she demanded. "Why would you marry someone you've known for such a short while?"
"You, Max and Casey, you mean a lot to me. If we get married you can stay here, I get to keep you and them safe. And my kids get a mother. They love you. You love them too, I know you do. And I can go back racing without feeling guilty. It's a win-win situation Sav."
Savannah squeezed her eyes tightly shut, trying to get her head around what Seb had just proposed...literally proposed. Was he crazy? Where on earth had this insane idea come from? It was madness, wasn't it? One minute they'd kissed, the next he was suggesting they got married...in name only. Did their kiss mean nothing to him?
She shook her head and opened her eyes. He was looking at her expectantly.
She didn't want to make the same mistake she had before and assume how he felt about the kiss. She had to know one way or another.
"The kiss.."
"What about it?"
"We kissed, again. You asked to kiss me...then you propose a marriage in name only...what's that all about? Because my head is fucked Seb."
Seb ran his fingers through his hair, laughing nervously. He knew he'd probably been too impetuous. He still thought it was a great idea, but he should have broke her into it gently, not sprung it on her like this. She probably though that he wanted to marry her so he had sex on tap when he was home from racing.
"The marriage...it's not about sex." It was true. He'd have married her even if they never had sex. It just made sense. It would benefit them both, and more importantly it would benefit the kids. His three would get the mother they deserved, her two would get a father they deserved...surely Savannah could see that? Of course he wanted to have sex with her but it wasn't based solely on that.
"So why did you kiss me?" she demanded. This wasn't going to be easy was it?
He felt his stomach churning with nerves. This was his chance to tell Savannah how much he wanted her, how much he desired her. Then he thought...what if he scared her away? What if she refused to even consider his proposal? So he just shrugged. He'd deal with his desire for her at a later date, first he had to get her to agree.
"Savannah, we get on so well, this could work. It would work! Christian wouldn't get near you again. You could even have your own room, I'm not expecting you to sleep with me..." Hoping, but not expecting.
Savannah felt sick. He didn't even want to sleep with her? "And what would we tell everyone? "Mother, Father, Sav and I are getting married. We've never been in a relationship but we're getting married anyway"."
Seb sighed. She had a point. He hadn't thought it through, but he wanted this. He wanted her to stay, to be in his life forever. He couldn't let her go back to the U.K. She'd never be safe there.
"That's something we'd have to talk about."
"That's something you should have thought about," she fired back at him.
