⚠️ this chapter contains a brief reference to self harm and suicidal thoughts.
"Wow, just wow," said Savannah for what was quite possibly the hundredth time since arriving in Monte Carlo forty eight hours earlier. Seb smiled affectionately, it pleased him to see the look of wonder on her face.
"It's really something isn't it?" he replied, wrapping his arms around her from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder to look down at the view below them. Monte Carlo looked so tiny from where they were up in the hills.
"I'd forgotten how spectacular it looks in the evening sun,"said Fabian, from just over to their left where he was admiring the same view with his girlfriend, Gia.
The young Italian woman looked over at Savannah. Savannah could see how overwhelmed she looked. She'd only
been with Fabian for a month, and he'd whisked her away to Monaco to watch the Grand Prix, and to top it all off to hang out with a four time world champion, and current championship leader. It was enough to blow anyone's mind. She pulled out of Seb's hold and linked her arm through Gia's. For so many years she'd struggled meeting new people and she could see a lot of herself in the young woman. Since meeting Seb she was no longer the scared, shy woman she'd been, he'd given the confidence in herself that she'd always needed.
"So Gia, tell me about how you and Fabian met," she said as they started strolling along the nature trail, leaving the Vettel brothers stood in the viewpoint carpark next to the two baby blue Vespas they'd hired for the weekend.
Seb watched the two women stroll away. He smiled. "Your Gia seems like a nice girl," he told his brother. Fabian blushed.
"She is. She's just amazing. I think I fell for her the instant I saw her." There would have been a time when Seb would have laughed at the idea of love at first sight but he totally got what Fabian meant. He hadn't recognised his feelings at the time, but he knew now that he'd loved Savannah from their first meeting. "Is Savannah ok?"
He frowned at his brother's words. "Yeah, she's good. Why?"
"She just seems a little on the quiet side."
Seb thought about it carefully. He knew she was fretting about whether they'd managed to fall pregnant or not that month. She had been officially due on her period eight days before but as her periods weren't regular that meant nothing. She'd refused to even do a test until they got home from Monaco.
"Yeah, she's good. She's just relaxing, it's not often she gets a break from the kids."
As much as he adored their family he'd been ecstatic to bring her to Monte Carlo minus the kids this weekend. He'd hired a small villa for them, Fabian, Gia, Britt and Antti several miles outside the principality. It was more relaxing than staying in a hotel. They'd arrived on the Wednesday and now it was Friday evening, and he was chilling after a stressful day on track.
Practice could have gone better, there had been set up issues on the car, but he was looking forward to qualifying the next day. There was nothing quite like setting a perfect lap at Monaco, or as close to perfect as possible. Pole was so important there, probably more so than at any other track.
"We should start making a move back soon," Fabian said. "Big day tomorrow."
"Another half an hour won't hurt. I like it up here. It's like being in a different world. The F1 circus is all down there and here I am."
"Lording it above them," Fabian joked. "This is your year Sebby. Number five is on its way."
"I'm not assuming anything. Max won't let up. Neither will George or Charles. It could go any way."
