Seb smiled as he looked at his sleeping wife's face illuminated by the moonlight shining through the taxi window. She'd nodded off just seconds after they'd been collected from the restaurant. It had been a wonderful evening, the food had been great, the time alone priceless.
Seb sighed. He was feeling selfish. He didn't want the night to end yet. It wasn't very often they got a night alone without children and he wanted to make the most of it. An idea began to form in his head. He began to argue with himself, Savannah was obviously tired, but once he'd had that idea he couldn't shake it.
He gently shook her awake. "Sav," he murmured. Savannah opened her eyes and looked into his.
"Are we home?"
"No, I just wondered if you fancied a little moonlit stroll by the lake. You know...make the evening last a little longer. It's ok if you feel too tired. I just thought it might be nice."
"Yeah sure." Seb leant forward and told the driver to drop them off at the beginning of the gravel track. He figured it would take them about half an hour to walk back to the cabin.
The driver pulled up a few minutes later. Seb paid him, adding a generous tip. Then he and Savannah got out and began to walk slowly hand in hand.
It was a full moon and it was reflecting brightly off of the still water.
"I can't believe how quickly this week has gone," Savannah said as they found the path that circled the lake. "I don't want to go home."
"Same. I wish we could stay here forever, but we need to get back for the animals. Your parents are going home Saturday and I don't want to ask Charlie to look after them. It doesn't seem fair."
"I know." They both jumped slightly as an owl hooted from overhead. Seb let go of Savannah's hand and slung his arm around her shoulder.
"We'll have to come back next summer, or maybe between races in the spring time. I bet it's beautiful here in the spring when all the blossom is out on the trees."
"That sounds wonderful."
Savannah slipped her arm around Seb's waist as they continued walking.
"I think that group at the table near the door recognised you," she said.
"Yeah I think you're right. I appreciate them leaving us alone though."
"Yeah, I expect they noticed I was pregnant."
"Maybe, it doesn't really matter now though."
"I thought you liked to keep things private."
"Well I do, but we're not exactly posting due dates, names and photos are we? Doesn't hurt that people know we're having a baby. They'll find out sooner or later anyway."
"True."
Seb stopped in his tracks. He took her hand again and led her down to the waters edge. They found themselves on another man made beach. He let go of her hand and stooped down and picked up a stone. He brought his arm back and then threw the stone with a flick of his wrist. It skimmed across the surface of the water, bouncing five times before sinking.
Savannah watched him. He seemed a little tense. She walked up behind him and slipped her arms around him, resting her cheek on his back.
"Is something bothering you?"
"Not really. I'm just a little stressed about the rest of the season."
"Because of the crash?" His bruises had almost gone now, and he hadn't mentioned Spa much, but Savannah wondered if it had been playing on his mind.
