40. Grief

The day started like any other day when Seb was away. Savannah woke up, and reached out sleepily for her husband, and felt the usual stab of disappointment she always felt when she realised he wasn't there. He was several hundred miles away in Budapest.

Still, there was no time to sit around moping. There was plenty to do around the house. She got up, made breakfast for everyone and let the dogs out into the back garden.

Life couldn't be more perfect, she thought to herself,  as she took a sip out of her glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

She was now thirteen weeks pregnant. Her sickness had stopped, as had her hormonal mood swings. In fact, she'd never felt better. She ran a hand over her small bump. It wasn't visible yet, so baby Vettel was still a secret between her and Seb. They would be having their next scan on Tuesday, and then they were going to tell their nearest and dearest the good news.

Another reason to be happy was the news she'd received the day before. Christian had formally been charged with assaulting her,  and although out on bail he had to appear in court during the second week of October. Hopefully he would finally get what he deserved.

Halfway through breakfast, a full English fry up, her phone rang notifying her that she had a FaceTime call incoming. She saw Seb's name on the screen and her face lit up. She accepted it.

It struck her immediately how tired Seb looked. Gorgeous of course, but tired. He had bags under his eyes.

"Hey baby," he greeted her. "How are you?"

"I am great thanks. How are you? You look tired."

"Yeah," he sighed. "Some clown thought it would be funny to set the fire alarms off at 2.30 this morning. We all had to evacuate while the fire brigade checked the whole building. It was nearly two hours before they let us back in."

"Twats," she said, making Seb laugh.

"I love how you say that word in your posh accent."

"I do not have a posh accent."

"Yes you do, and it's sexy, just like you are."

"Please. There are children present," Myah piped up. Savannah reversed the camera so Seb could see the children.

"Hi kids!" Seb called out.

They all shouted hi back. Savannah turned the camera back on herself. "So any plans for today beautiful?"

"Nah, well obviously I'm going to watch quali. Maybe take the dogs out later for a long walk. I'll probably take Rufus too. Nanna and Grandad are still getting over their colds."

"Good luck...five kids and three dogs, just take it easy ok?"  She nodded at him.

"I will."

"Good girl."

They chatted for a couple more
minutes and then Antti appeared behind Seb telling him it was time to go.

Once he'd gone she resumed eating her breakfast, which had gone cold.  She didn't care though, it was food and it kept Vettel junior happy.

She spent the rest of the morning dusting and hoovering the bedrooms.  Seb had told her they could look into employing a cleaner but she didn't like the idea of some stranger coming in, and had insisted on doing things herself.  It wasn't like she had much else to do when Seb was away.

At lunchtime she made the kids some sandwiches and put some snacks out on the table as well. Once they'd eaten, the kids went to play in the back garden while she washed up and prepared the vegetables they'd be having with their dinner that evening.
