A/N:  ok so I have no idea how the court process would actually go.  I've used my artistic licence so it may not be correct.   However as it's just fiction I don't think it really matters.

Savannah felt sick. In fact, she'd started the day by throwing up. Her father had joked that it was morning sickness, but it wasn't. She was just plain terrified of facing Christian in court that day. She knew the likelihood was that nothing would be decided that day, but she still didn't want to see him.

"Sav, just try to stay calm," Seb said quietly as he took her hand in his. Together they began to cross the car
park towards the court building. "I know it's difficult, but you have to remember that you have the advantage. He has no reason whatsoever to get the kids taken away from you. The best he can hope for is joint custody, and when they see what he did to you he won't even get that."

Savannah bit her bottom lip. She wished she could trust in Seb's words
but she knew he was just trying to keep her calm. There was no way of knowing what the judge would decide. Based on any evidence submitted today, he would either accept Christian's application and adjourn the hearing, or he'd throw it out. Her lawyer had warned her to expect an adjournment. Her photos alone would not be enough to get the application thrown out. They would need to hear from Max.

"I hate him," she hissed. "I literally despise the very thought of him. How I once thought I loved him is beyond me. I wish I'd never met him."

"But then you wouldn't have had Max
and Casey," Seb reasoned. Savannah knew he was right but she'd got herself worked up into a right state.

Reaching the front doors to the court, Seb let got of Savannah's hand and pushed his coat sleeve up to look at his watch.

"We still have half an hour. Do you want to get a coffee?" he said. Savannah shook her head.

"I can't stomach it. Too nervous." Seb picked her hand up again and they headed inside. There was no one else inside beside a receptionist. Savannah's was the first hearing of the day so the court had only just opened.

"At least he's not here yet", she stated, looking around for any sign of her beastly ex.  Seb led her over to a row of brown fake leather bucket chairs. They sat down to wait for Savannah's lawyer, Richard Webster- Smith to arrive.

After several minutes the lawyer arrived. Savannah and Seb had never actually met him in person. He was a golfing friend of Savannah's father, and one of the best family lawyers in the country.

"Savannah?" he asked. Savannah stood up.

"Mr Webster-Smith?" He nodded and held his hand out for her to shake. He then shook Seb's hand. Savannah was surprised. He wasn't what she'd expected. She'd been expecting a rotund, balding man in his fifties. In fact, Richard Webster-Smith looked like he was in his late thirties. He was very tall and athletic looking. He had sandy blonde hair and wore a pair of round glasses, not unlike Harry Potter's.

"It's a pleasure to meet you at last. Your father is always talking about you, Casey and Max. And congratulations on your marriage by the way."

"Thank you, and thank you for taking on my case."

"No worries. I've come across men like Christian Dalton before, and it will be my pleasure to make sure he gets no rights over your children. The photos you sent...they will be a great help. I'm just sorry that Max will have to testify. The photos would be worthless without his testimony though. Dalton's lawyers would just claim that anyone could have caused your injuries."

"I understand. I didn't want to put him through it, but I can't risk Christian getting his hands on them."

Seb let Savannah do all the talking. He knew that this case had nothing legally to do with him. He was there as her husband, as her rock. Nothing else.
