21: I Just Got Back

I wake up when I feel my body move. Opening my eyes and seeing a nurse checking on my bruises and my stability I jolt back when I fully regain consciousness.

"I'm- I'm so sorry, you just startled me" I apologize but she shakes her head.

"No need to apologize, I'll come back and check on you later," she says placing a hand on mine before leaving.

As soon as she closes the door the room is completely silent.

I think I might go insane if I stay in here any longer.

Just as I was about to step off the bed the doctor from yesterday walks in.

"Looks like someone couldn't stay still," she says and I exhale deeply before sitting back on the bed.

"I just thought it would be good for me to walk around," I say and she smiles.

Looking at the tablet in her hand, I presume it has information about me. She says, "I get that but I'm the one who will authorize that okay?"

I nod in understanding and she smiles warmly.

"Like I said yesterday, you have no injuries to the head, no bleeding or concussion but I still want you to be careful before I discharge you I'll do a quick evaluation of your physical health and we'll see what happens next," she says putting the tablet down.

"When the cave came down, did the missing townspeople make it out?" I ask and she nods.

"Yes, the mayor of Aletéra was the one who found you all crawling out of the rubble, she wanted to let you know that you did bring back the missing people," she says and I smile slightly.

"Was there any evidence of foul play?" I ask and she props up more.

Looking at me confused she says, "you think someone targeted you and your friends?"

I look down at my hands and try to remember what happened.

I saw two forms of magic. There were people there who are responsible for bringing the cave down on us.

Remaining silent she sighs and says, "even if there was evidence it's all gone, the rubble would've destroyed it all, is there anyone we should be looking for?"

Looking back at her I say, "no, the cave looked old so it probably just finally collapsed"

I know she doesn't believe me but what else can she do?

"The nurse will come back in a few hours, they'll get you ready and bring you to me for the evaluation," she says picking up her things and walking to the door.

Before she walks out she turns to face me and says, "it would be good for you to walk around" and she leaves.

I smile at her remark and look at the foot of the bed to see that she left some pants.

Don't want my ass hanging out now, do we?

Getting off the bed, successfully not getting my IVs tangled, I put on the pants and drag my IV poll with me as I walk out of the room.

This floor goes in circles so I do one lap around and stop in front of a room when I see Nick.

Before I walk I knock on the door and he smiles.

Gesturing to come in I notice he doesn't have hospital clothes on.

Everyone else starts walking in and I'm even more confused as to why they have their regular clothes on.

"Did you guys get discharged?" I ask pointing at their clothes.

"Yep, I'm guessing you weren't?" Bruno says laughing at the fact that I still have a gown on.
