I got up earlier than I had to and thank god it's one of those days that even when you wake up early, the sky is still dark.
My thoughts kept me from getting my regular sleep but not to worry, I'm currently making three cups of coffee. Not that it has any effect on me, I just like the taste and I'm currently addicted, I should probably stop.
Waiting for my coffee to finish I sit by the window and stare out into the sky.
Got to admit the view is really great, watching people get angry over nothing and watching the sunrise.
That peace slowly comes to an end when I hear knocking on the door.
I grab my first cup of coffee and hide the other two to avoid giving them cause I don't share.
"Shit," I say as I look through the peephole to see my mom standing out there.
I take a deep breath to prepare myself for whatever she has in store for me.
"Ma what are you doing here?" I say as I open the door.
"I can't check on my son to see how he's doing in his new home?" She says trying to make me feel bad.
Yeah, I'm pretty much an expert on my mom's manipulation tactics by now.
As she lets herself in I say, "not what I was saying, I just thought you came here for something that's all"
She walks around, taking in every detail of the place. She smiles at the picture I have, guess she thought I would've thrown them out.
Me and my mom have a complicated relationship, almost like every other family. We can get along but it doesn't take much for us to be at each other's throats.
"I really wanted to know how you were doing, I understand that it's only been a few weeks since the unified trials and you've already got so much to do but you will be great," she says and I almost believe her sincere act.
"Why do I get the feeling that there's more than what you're saying, what happened?" I say, making her realize that she can't fool me.
Before she can say anything back, Adam walks into the living room saying, "morning Jordan, morning Mrs. Astra"
He does a double-take and looks confused.
Damn it.
"Ah so this is my supposedly Sobrino, he's taller, surprised people bought that story," she says and Adam just stands there awkwardly.
"Ma leave him alone," I say to her and she backs off.
Adam goes off to his room to change and comes back.
"So you want to tell her or shall I?" I ask Adam and he gives me the responsibility.
"The reason why he's here is that while I was moving in I must've taken some stuff from the Covenant and within one of those boxes was an ancient spell that ended up bringing him here from the Ether realm and binding the two of us together," I say and I look at Adam while my mom tries to comprehend what she just heard.
She paces back and forth before saying, "the Covenant can't know about this, I don't want to put you in any danger, so for now, we'll stick to the cousin story until we figure something out"
She hugs me and surprisingly hugs Adam too before leaving.
"Looks like she really likes you, it's rare for her to do that, she only makes business relationships, not friendly ones," I say walking to the kitchen.
He turns to face me and says, "I'm glad and it's a relief to know she doesn't have a problem with me being a demon but what happens if the Covenant does find out?"
