Subprompt : "This wasn't supposed to happen"
Fandom : Dirty Paws (short film - 2015)
Pairing : Aldo/Skelly
Warning : Major character death and fairly graphic depictions of violence

Skelly was usually relatively in control when he transformed. The restraints were more for the safety of himself and the neighborhood cats- Aldo had no reason to be afraid because, save for a few particularly bad instances, Skelly was just as he was in his human form, only bigger, furrier, and with more of an urge to run in the forest.

This was not one of those times, though.

He'd woken up already feeling a little wolfy. That was never a good sign because the real instincts didn't usually start to kick in until the evening leading up to his transformations. He'd been in a weird, foggy state all day and it only got worse as the night approached. Aldo picked up on it too and was a little bit worried about what lay in the night ahead for the first time since they'd initially dealt with this.

"Are you gonna be okay?"

"I'm fine" Skelly told him, voice harsh and slightly gravelly as they went into the room. He allowed the chains to be put over him but the usual banter didn't play out. Neither of them said a word as Aldo slowly worked the chains around his shoulders, making sure they were on tight.

Night eventually came and, sure enough, Skelly transformed as he always did, whining in pain as his jaw snapped out of place and back in, bigger than before. As his muscles twisted and pulled and stretched alongside his bones, while fur uncomfortably grew from every follicle in his body.

"Skelly" Aldo said cautiously as he entered the room to find the werewolf- his boyfriend- eyeing him curiously, as though contemplating how he would best taste. Aldo swallowed nervously, approaching the canine slowly with his palms up in the air to show there was no threat. "It's just me, yeah?" he said, trying to keep the usual lighthearted tone in his voice but falling short. Something... Wasn't right. "You know me"

Something was wrong. The constant movement suddenly stilled as Skelly- No, this thing- Just stared at him. Something was seriously wrong, but he couldn't fathom what. He was in the process of working up another soothing phrase when suddenly, the chains came loose.

Oh

...

He worked out of them

"Okay, Skelly" Aldo started more nervously as the canine got up and started circling him slowly, a low growl emanating from the depths of his throat. "Skelly, listen. It's me. I know you. You know me" he said cautiously, chancing a step closer but immediately backing away when the growling intensified. "And I know there's this thing inside you and you aren't really in control right now, but I also know that you can hear me, and-"

The wolf lunged toward him. Aldo was defenseless to stop it. He put up a good fight for a moment, but the wolf quickly subdued him, ripping out a chunk of his neck.

Blood splattered across the floor as the wolf whipped its head and threw the chunk of flesh against the wall before tearing into him again. Aldo couldn't even scream, any attempts coming out as nothing but a gargled whisper as his vocal cords continued to get torn to shreds and blood filled his neck.

The rest of the night was a blur, Skelly nowhere to be seen, replaced by the monster ripping apart his poor husband like a chew toy until there was nothing left to do. Then morning came...

"Aldo?" Skelly asked groggily before suddenly becoming aware of the blood he was drenched in and the fact that he was not in chains but still in the house. As if that wasn't bad enough, he then looked up to see the scattered, battered, and broken remains of his husband, unrecognizable in the state he was in.

His heart dropped and he felt sick to his stomach, not even bothering to rush to the bathroom as he expunged the contents of his stomach all over the floor and himself. "Fuck" he sobbed out to himself, an indescribable sense of guilt, grief, anger, and fear flooded his body, leaving him as a gasping and sobbing mess as he shakily crawled toward the heap of flesh, blood, and bone that was Aldo.

"This... This isn't... Aldo, I'm sorry" he sobbed, gagging and hiccupping through his words. The concept of punishment hadn't even set in yet. "Fuck... No... Fuck, Aldo, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to"

Silence. The only sound he could hear besides himself was the breeze outside.

He cried for an hour, maybe two, it didn't matter at that point. Eventually, his tears ran dry. The guilt didn't leave, but he could cry no longer, and the fact that he would most likely be a wanted criminal in the near future began to set in. As much as he felt he deserved to be imprisoned, he also knew that would be putting even more people at risk. So, he packed a light bag of the bare essentials- A few scattered bits of food, a bottle of water, and one of Aldo's favorite books- Then went to see Aldo (or what was left of him) one last time.

"I'm sorry" he said in a flat voice, not looking at the remains. It was far from the first apology. Probably wouldn't be the last. "This wasn't supposed to happen... One day, I'll see you again, but I..." he swallowed. "I'm going to go... I'm so sorry... I love you"

He got no reply as he darted downstairs and out the backdoor, into the woods to never be seen again.
