LOUIS' POV

I felt chills in my bone marrow as my heart began to race. The lady squinted with her head slightly tilted, she widened her eyes and gasped "C-Can I take your order?" her lips trembled as she tried to stop her hands from shaking.

I glanced at the menu on the table "just iced coffee" I replied. She managed to write and hurried back inside.

"Why is she here? What is she doing here? Why did I see her in my dreams? Why does she keep following me?" I kept thinking and overthinking but I couldn't get any reasonable answers.

She returned with her face buried in the tray she was holding "Y-Your coffee" the cup slipped from her trembling hands, and the shattering sound drew the others' attention.

"I-I'm so sorry" Fiona crouched and began to pick the pieces. I felt sorry for her and helped her. I was about to pick the last one when I felt a sharp cut "ouch" I dropped it as I saw the color red.

"You're hurt! Uh, I'm so sorry" Fiona slowly pulled my hard to have a look. My heart fluttered as I remembered when we were in high school. It has been a while since I felt her touch.

"I'll be right back" Fiona returned with a first aid box and plastered my wound "I'll bring another cup of coffee" Fiona went inside but I didn't see her come out, I started to worry something must have happened to her.

I walked into the shop, and a chubby woman sitting on a chair and calling Fiona all sorts of names. "Excuse me, what's going on here?" Both of them turned to me.

"Nothing sir, oh! Mr. Walter, you must be the unserved customer. Forgive my clumsy worker, she used to be more careful, I don't know what happened today" the woman faked a laugh.

I looked at her and then at Fiona "Ma'am, this is my girlfriend, she was just overwhelmed to see me" Fiona looked at me with her eyebrows wrinkled as I pulled her shoulder close.

I moved to the table and dropped some cash "this is for the coffee damages, you can keep the change" I lowered my glasses and winked.

"Oh, it's fine, it's fine" she grinned and grabbed the money quickly "you can take her, we're closing early today. Fiona, have fun!" the woman waved her hands.

Fiona slowly dropped her apron and left with me. We walked away from the shop, far enough not to be seen or heard, she summoned up courage and lifted her head "t-thanks for saving me, you didn't have to"

I nodded and avoided her eyes, "it was nothing, hmm... bye" I paused as a hand pulled me back "Louis, I-I'm sorry, please let me explain, I won't ask for anything else" her gaze had mixed emotions of sadness and fear.

I felt sorry for her and agreed, She flashed a smile and then led the way "Mhmm... why are we going there? If I'm not mistaken this is the road to the forbidden forest?" I paused and stared at her for an explanation.

"I can't explain the details now, you just have to trust me" Fiona stretched out a hand "well, I trusted you once" I sighed and continued moving.

The forest looked normal, it had different plant species, fertile soil, few beds, and other small animals then rocks.

"We are here" Fiona took off her shoes and twirled slowly on the golden sand as the voice of the wind danced with her. She suddenly stopped and turned to me "sorry, I got carried away" she said with a shy smile.

"It's okay, you wanted to tell me something?" I recalled.

"This is called the living water, people staying nearby say the water is haunted and has a mind of its own. No one can swim or fish in this river and only endangered aquatic species are found inside" she said.

"But how do you know?" I said. Fiona sat down on the golden sand sighing then looked up at me. "The river told me," she said with a shrug.

"Huh?" I arced a brow, thinking I must have heard her wrongly.

"It all started when my parents, who were two creatures from different mystical races met and gave birth to me. The two races broke out in an all-out war which wiped everybody off the face of my world" she pinched the hem of her black pleated gown and sat down

"But luckily for me, my Mother escaped in time and threw me into the human world. But Mother couldn't make it. The portal closed with my Mother still in it- halfway through both worlds and that destroyed her body" Fiona said with a low voice.

"In haste to preserve the fragments of her soul, she fused herself to the portal which took the form of this river right here. Years passed and mother remained in an unconscious state, barely aware of her own existence" She glanced at me and then continued.

"But gradually she started to gain consciousness, she could feel and hear her heartbeat, then she could sense rays of light, then the sounds were detectable" Fiona exhaled.

"Later fragments of her memory began to piece themselves together. She tried to find me but realized she was trapped in this form. She was devastated and hoped someday I'll find her" she touched the waters with her fingers.

I looked at her with my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Okay, let me get this straight. There's another world parallel to this one filled with super-powered aliens... "

I stopped immediately after I realized myself, I looked over to her and quickly added- "I didn't mean it like that... you're beautiful"

Fiona smiled at me "I know Louis... go on"

"So you're telling me there's another planet filled with dead meta-humans which you're originally from? And your Mom is this river right here?" I said. "Yes..." she replied.

"Oh... I get it" I nodded slowly.

"Okay, I don't get it... I think I'm about to go crazy" I said quickly, pulling on my hair... which is perfect by the way, did I mention that? Uh, what am I even thinking?
