FIONA's POV
I darted my eyes as he met mine. He chuckled and looked the other way. He did a fancy key charm on his ribcage. "Wow, it's pretty," I said. Louis smiled, "Thanks.""You're next, miss" I took a seat and held my breath as the man moved forward, Louis held my left hand "I'm with you, it's okay" His words and the look in his eyes made me a bit relaxed.
I got a yin tattoo below my palm, just like Louis', and a fancy padlock on my ribcage. I wanted a tattoo on my own so I added a pair of butterflies on my left abdomen.
"All done, what a lovely couple. I'll be right back" the man chuckled as he walked away.
"Those butterflies are cute" Louis narrowed his eyes at them, I grinned "This one over here is slightly bigger so that's you, the smaller one above is me" I explained.
"I love it... but shouldn't I be on top?" he smirked with a mischievous look. My face heated up like a steamed kettle. "That's not my point!"
He never changed since day one, shame is not in his dictionary. "You should see your face!" he giggled.
...
After work the following day, I went for training. I had this unusual feeling but I had to visit after a long time. My shoulders stiffened as I saw him "Hello" Griffin raised his head with a plain expression "Let's begin"
Griffin left immediately after the training. Normally, I would ask some questions about combat or we would talk casually but I didn't feel like it today, and neither did he.
Mom wouldn't stop talking about 'the romantic training session' . I don't know if at this point she just decided to ignore it. That atmosphere was anything but romantic.
"Mom, please stop, I'll be engaged to Louis soon" She yelled at me to stop being delusional and asked questions like why hasn't he proposed yet.
"He's taking his time" I defended. Mom laughed and said he'd keep doing that until he has achieved his interior motive, which may be money, like his father, or 'personal pleasure.' I flushed "He's not like that!"
...
I met Louis in the morning, he said he was leaving for an emergency and will be back in a week. The last thing he said was "Just hold on okay, I'll be back as fast as I can" I opened my mouth to say something but Louis was racing to the sunlight.
I went for training when I was done with my part-time jobs. I arrived a few minutes before Griffin, he called it a day after two hours. Griffin didn't say anything just like the other day and walked away. It was unfortunate I couldn't read his expression.
Mom asked when I arrived so early. She then asked if I had visited Louis today "Yeah, he traveled for a week, he will come back" I was shocked when Mom burst into laughter.
She said he was stalling so that he'd play with me a little longer. "That's not true Mom, he's a busy person." Mom said if he doesn't come back in ten days her point will be proven and I'll marry Griffin.
"Why? Why are you forcing us? Have you told him about this plot of yours?" Mom said Griffin doesn't mind. She mocked I'm doubting him, that's why I can't bet.
"Fine! If Louis comes back and proposes to me you'll have to accept him" I couldn't let her disrespect Louis' loyalty anymore, I trust him.
...
I was worried when two weeks passed and he was not back yet. I knew I lost the bet but I wanted to make sure Louis was okay. I jumped from my chair when I heard a tap on the door.
I stared at a manly figure that held up plants in front of his face. He popped his head from the bunch of mixed roses "Surprise!" I sighed and pulled him into a bear hug
"Where have you been? You said you'll be back in a week" I frowned. "I'll explain later, I have something to show you!" he grinned and we left the house immediately.
...
I thought it was another classic place that was newly opened. It was like we were inside a glass dome with different species of fish in clear blue water. I was literally under the sea.
Soft violin played in the background, "Wow... this is beautiful" My eyes darted to the royal blue chairs and tables that complemented the white tiles.
The place was empty. I supposed Louis had something to do with it. "I knew you'll feel at home in an underwater restaurant" Louis pulled a chair and motioned me to a seat.
"That's very thoughtful" I gave him a small smile. We had lunch and chatted for a while. "I love your silver dress," he glanced—longer than usual, "thanks," I said shyly.
"Why did you break your promise? It's not fair" I played with the spoon on my empty plate.
"Since I'll be taking over Walter's business I had to make a few adjustments as the new CEO" Louis had a smug look on his face.
"I also had some personal things to take care of" He gazed into my eyes, I was drowned in those bottomless oceans.
"Fiona, I know we've been on a bumpy ride since the first day, we tried to work things out but-" my eyes widened as he went on his knees "I want to make this permanent" I was dumbstruck at its blinding lights.
"Will you marry me?" my world froze, and my pounding heart echoed in the room. I wanted to say yes quickly but I thought about what would happen after that.
Am I ready to face the man that wants me locked up forever? Will his family be disappointed in his choice? Will Louis suffer in the future because of me? Was Mom right about our hopeless efforts? I couldn't stop pondering these unanswered questions.
"Hello? Fiona?" I blinked as I heard his voice, "it's time to make a decision" I said inwardly then took a deep breath. Our eyes still locked together.
