Chapter 39 : Virtu Vulnerabilities
V's POV
Sitting down in the seat Judy provided she says she got two virtu's from Evelyn's BD gear.
'Surprised it even worked she went through so much'
"Data was in pretty rough shape - not all that editable" Judy says as i put on the Braidance Weave
"Mhm. Glad you managed to salvage 'em in the first place, And, Sorry you, Uh, Had too…,
"Needs a second to load. Quality's lousy, but I did what I could '' She says looking back at her computer and as the Braindance Weave lights up blue and all of a sudden i'm Eveyln.
"What am I looking out for? Every single piece of tech I see, security?" Eveyln says to a blurred out person
"We need a layout of the whole room. We will get everything else we need from the virtu" The Mysterious Person says with a heavy accent
"What about his messages?" I ask as Eveyln
'This is disorientating, Sometimes'
"Only if you can do it and be quiet, It is most important that he suspects nothing. Try to be your usual, Relaxed self" The Mysterious Person replies
"And if he starts talking about the biochip himself, should I…?" Eveyln Asks
"Biochip? Where did you hear this? That is not of interest to you. You spin the virtu, you come back here, we give you the eddies. That's your one job. The rest is none of your concern. Understand?" The Mysterious Person says getting up and leaving Eveyln alone.
The BD ends and Judy tells me to look around for any clues, Scanning the Mysterious Person Judy says "Under normal circumstances, that kinda encryption is easy to crack. But not this time. Whoever she is, she's got serious netrunning skills. Should ask YN to see if she has a clue" I hear some shuffling and some footsteps as YN apparently comes in and says "Y'all Talking about me?"
"Yep, Know any Netrunner who'd pay Eveyln to steal from Arasaka?" Judy asks
"Yeah, All of them, Anything actually useful to go off of?" YN asks as i scan around more
"Yeah strong Accent" Judy says
"Haitian?" YN asks
"Yeah" Judy respondes
"Gotta be Voodoo Boys then" YN replies as i end the DB.
"Now we know what happened at Clouds. They're the ones who tried to flatline her. Launched a nuke at her chip, Looks like Eveyln never told us the whole truth"
Judy vigorously shakes her head and says "You're telling me?! If I'd known what she'd gotten herself into……. Argh, I'm so mad at her"
"Her only job was to record a Virtu Pretty damn amazing she managed to organize a full-blown heist. And swipe the biochip from under her boss's nose."
"So that's where you came in, she hired you. And brought this all on herself. On you, too. There's one more recording. Wanna see it?" Judy asks loading it up on her computer
"Sure, why not. Nothing that can surprise me at this point" As the Blue lights return and I'm Eveyln again.
The Virtu plays and Eveyln is hiding at the top of some stairs while the same mysterious woman as before is on call with someone speaking some Language.
"What language is she speaking?" Judy asks
"Dunno, Haitian Creole? It is the Voodoo Boys" I muse
"Wait, lemme see if I've got an auto-translator. Meantime, You try to tune into the phone's frequency. See what the other side's sayin'. Try scanning the phone. Got it. Give it a second….. Heard her mention Yorinobu. Probably why Evelyn buried this recording deep. Caught another name…… something like…… Silverhand?" Judy says
The mysterious woman and person on the phone talk about whether Eveyln will bring trouble and that The Silverhand Engram will bring Alt…?
Exiting the Braindance I see YN leaning next to the door and Johnny leaning on the window.
"V, Any Ideas?" Judy asks, catching me staring at the window.
"Biochip we stole…? It's got Silverhand's engram burned onto it" I say to Judy who goes silent
"Can i get a second to think over everything" I ask Judy and YN
"Course'" Judy says as YN just nods and exits while I turn to look at Johnny and ask 'Know who they are - who the woman is? Any idea how we find them?'
"Fuck, V…. I have been dead for the last half century. Sorry if I'm unable to hand you all the answers on a chrome fucking plotter when you snap your fingers" Johnny says after taking a drag from his imaginary Cigarette
"These people - what could they want from Alt?"
"One way or another, everything leads back to that netrunner. Finding her's our biggest priority. If she knows as much as I think she knows about the chip, she can help us out, Should ask that Knockoff alt out there" He says nodding towards where YN and Judy went
I just nod and get up to leave and to talk to YN and Judy.
"You got any idea how to get in touch with the Voodoo Boys?" I hear Judy asking YN as i walk through the beaded doorway
"Nah, But they've tried to contact me a bunch, Ain't replied wasn't worthwhile till now i guess" YN says looking towards me.
"You got any Ideas?" Judy asks me now
"No but, I'll ask around, make a few calls….. Lemme put it this way. The Voodoo Boys wouldn't trust a cat if it walked onto their turf….. But someone's gotta know a way in If YN's Route doesn't work"
"Well, Good Luck V, Hope you don't need it" Judy Says as YN nods and goes to check on Eveyln.
Leaving the Apartment i remember that one Pacifica Fixer and call him up in hopes that he has an in with the Voodoo Boys even though i know it's unlikely, I also text YN to let me know if she has any updates or any ways into the Voodoo boys and she replies that she will.
