FROM THE ASHES
— 5. Spoiled Brat
It had been about six months since Shaera had returned to King's Landing with her three children and their four dragons. Viserys decided not to marry her off this time, much to her relief. She couldn't bare the thought of not being home any longer. It had been over ten years.Viserys had grown much older since she last saw him and so did his daughter, Rhaenyra. She was a great beauty and got along quite well with Shaera's older children, especially Rhaegon.
Many in Westeros expected that when it came time for Rhaenyra to marry, it would be Rhaegon who would be chosen by Viserys. As was the custom.
Along with Rhaenyra, who was riding Syrax, Rhaegon rode Thyrax, through the air, the two of them racing to see who was fastest. And that moment, Rhaenyra seemed to have been winning.
The dragons flew past the Red Keep and toward the pits, where they knew Ser Harold Westerling was waiting to make sure they returned safely.
The two Targaryen teens landed safely, the dragon keepers raising their staffs to ensure the two dragons obeyed their commands. "Dohaeras, Syrax and Thyrax!"
"Umbas," The second dragon keeper added, looking uneasy, "Rybas!"
Finally, the two dragons lowered their heads, allowing the two teens to jump off their dragons and land on the ground.
Rhaegon smiled as he moved closer to Thyrax, petting him on the side of his face.
"Welcome back, your highnesses," Ser Harold spoke up as the two walked past him while he sat atop his horse. "I trust your ride was pleasant."
"Try not to look too relieved, ser," Rhaenyra smirked, removing her gloves.
"I am relieved," He replied calmly, "Every time those beasts brings you both back unspoiled, it saves my head from a spike."
Rhaegon laughed and shook his head. He followed Rhaenyra as they walked toward the carriage where Rhaenyra's best friend, Alicent Hightower waited for them.
She was a pretty girl, Rhaegon could admit. But much too shy and careful for him.
"Syrax and Thyrax are growing quickly," Alicent commented as she admired the two dragons that were the same age. After all, they had come from the same clutch of eggs, "They'll soon be as large as Caraxes and Nightwing."
"That's almost large enough to saddle two," Rhaegon flirted with a grin on his face, "Perhaps I'll take you on him one day."
"I believe I'm quite content as a spectator, thank you, Rhaegon," She rejected him and Rhaenyra laughed in amusement.
Rhaegon shot her an annoyed look, just before turning to see Alicent roll her eyes and climb back into the carriage.
"And they claim you're the most sought out suitor at court," Rhaenyra commented, recalling the countless times she overheard ladies speak of their lust for Rhaegon. He was young, yet already had a reputation of bedding women at court.
